4th flush from a casing
    #2477596 - 03/26/04 04:01 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

Well I'm getting a 4th flush but two of the pins seemed to rot, got slimy and black. One was in a cluster, and the other was off by it self. The rest of the shrooms in the cluster look alright, and there doesn't seem to be any contamination, is this something to worry about? I disposed of the two already cause I sure as hell wasn't eating them. Could there be too much peroxide in the water I'm misting with, any ideas on what causes this. This is my first casing and I haven't had any probs with it yet, so far I've gotten about 1.5oz and looking like about another 3/8s to come if all goes well.

It sounds like the two pins in question were just a couple of aborts. As long as everything else looks healthy then I would think that you are doing just fine. Especially if you have only had two aborts in a total of four flushes.

What are you using for your substate and casing layer?

Peace

My substate is white millet and I cased with strait verm. I'm using a clear rubbermaid tub slightly bigger than my casing with perlite in the bottom to fruit.

I think your stuff is fine if those aren't all over, this will probably be the last flush.

I'm planning on using perlite in a rubbermaid tub with a couple seperate casings in tupperware or pans in it. I was also going to use just verm for casings and BRF for cakes.
Does the perlite provide enough moisture for the casings? You said above you mist, how often?
Would having holes in the bottom of the casing containers help with moisture? Does straight vermiculite work well for a casing?
Also, just wondering, are those weights dry or wet?

The perlite seems to provide plenty of moisture, I usually mist like once a week, I dunno about the holes in the bottom cause this is my first casing, i'm still pretty new to growing. I've gotten 1.5oz dry. I picked one of my shrooms today it grew to be 26.3g and fell over, the veil looked like it would break in a few hrs.
