Switching Computers With Broadband
    #2478265 - 03/27/04 04:43 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

My folks have broadband through insightbb (www.insightbb.com). I'm trying to hook up my comp by simply by switching the ether cord. The comp sees the connection, but when I try to load a web page, it says cannot load page. I tried disable the connection and re-enable it, but the IP addy stays the same. If I had the software that the Insight techs loaded for my parents comp, could i load it onto mine? Any help is much appreciated! Peace.

The times are good. The living is easy. The vibes are zingy.

Is that a cable ISP? You might try unplugging and replugging the cable modem. Then you'll have to run the "setup connections" stuff again. It will probably assign you a new IP, so I hope that's not a problem.

Damned if I know why that should be necessary, but I recently got my mom's laptop running on my cable by doing that.

Try This:

thats what your ISP recomends anyway. If that doesnt work, I would check and see if your connection uses PPPOE or something, maybe you need to set it up properly (usualy those cds you get from your ISP do that for you).
