I read its not true that seeds have terrible germination rate, but Ferrel you say hardly any make it past seedling stage??

How big do most get before they die? I am expecting preordered seeds (2 pods) from france shortly and dont have the space to grow a hundred sizeable seedlings only to have most die. The seeds i get may be pretty fresh is it completely normal for so few to make it?
If germination isnt the problem I dont think tissue culture is a solution for kratom..

edit: I received the 2 seed pods  Will check how many seeds are in there. Any suggestion how many seeds you will want to have to get about 2-3 plants from it ultimately?
Cause I am reading some widely varying stories, especially about how "easy" they are to grow from seed.

Sollipsis don't worry man, I've grown my plants from seeds, from the same source as you and if you take care to not overcrowd them too much when first sowing the seeds they will all (or most) survive. The only reason I think some people have all their seedlings die on them is because they lose interest after a month or so seeing how small the plants still are and neglect them (not directed to you at all Ferrel, btw)

Hope you bought the Rifat seeds, not the Red Thai. Check out this thread if you want the info I gathered growing from these exact seeds. I still have 30+ plants, some of which I have taken cuttings from already. Started in May of this year.

It was a fallow up to a question i had asked previously but i can see how that could cause confusion.

Thanks ferrel for the input, never grown kratom before so i wasnt sure if that was normal or not.:takingnotes:

Well its not normal but i dont see aphids underneath the leaves so i wouldnt worry too much. Are there little animals underneath there?

The grower said he had some aphids prior to shipping but he held off a week and treated them.
I left them outside for a week sort of a quarantine and i didnt see any aphids so i brought them inside and washed them off really thoroughly checked them again then repotted them.

Ill keep an eye out for aphids, maybe its just damage from the aforementioned incident and no longer relevant.

Thank you for the advice  that cleared things up... there are plenty of seeds in a pod yeah.

Pseudo pasteurized coco coir based soil and sowed approximately 20 seeds. Now also a couple via micropropagation, if those survive it might be interesting to compare.

And yes I got the rifat luckily  maybe the bunk seeds weren't an intentional scam and the parent thai plant is just sterile? They should have realized that though... a selective scam if anything.

Hey guys! So it's getting cold here again, with temps at night sometimes reaching 10ºC / 50ºF (maybe lower if I get unlucky). I was not expecting my plant to live this long, so I didn't plan ahead. But my tree is huge and theres no where I could fit it inside. What should I do???

If you can't like 'ask it to move out' and don't have a shed, basement or garage or anything like that I think trim it even if you have to trim harshly and put it in whatever space you have.

I just started so don't know how to kratom yet but based on common sense and the fact that in many places winter is not at its coldest yet at all you got a few basic choices to make and no real way around them?
I don't think you wanna solve this by something like setting up a tent over and around it every night to shelter it.

Piqued to hear out of the box solutions though

I kept one in my poorly lighted garage last year, where it dropped into the 40s. The plant survived and did well when warm weather came back. I think anything that will protect it from frost might be enough to get it through winter.

Sweet. Well I can imagine you'd want to take a whole load of cuttings just to be sure and then "let it go" or risk having to store an even bigger tree up your garage next year. You guys are troopers

That leaf tip looks good. Healthy you ask? Yes it appears to be. No sign of anything serious although it does look like it has some tissue damage. This looks like maybe it was an injury from being bent or poked or something. Aside from that, maybe theyres some snail or catepillar damage on a few of the larger leaves.. in the background. Copper wire ornaments is good for snails... as well as late night murder sessions with a flashlight and a shameless pair of boots... for ratapillers, i like to use a BT foilar spray. Other than all that, your plant looks good. I havent been on the site in a while. Good to see a few new faces in hea. A belated Welcome aboard :super:
