I confess that my wbs are at like 70% and every night i come home expecting them to all be green... They seem to have stalled :frown:

GE is great.. grain was a touch on the wet side which is prolly the issue.. i'm just getting impatient is all..will take a picture in a few.. agar just went in the PC waiting for it to heat up, went blue this time.. maybe that will bring luck :smile:

Here it is.. room is kept at 69-70 24/7


P.S. i usually edit the pics and make them smaller.. but i'm on a fucking hackintosh and trying to do anything on an apple os is a nightmare... on a pc it takes 10 seconds...

They look fine to me...
Is there a reason you are not shaking them?

If it has slowed up it could be the stuff on the bottom is not getting as much GE.
The moisture content looks good.

You could shake those and finish up in 3-4 days. That would also help you know if you have any issues with bacteria. It will recover and recolonize slowly if you have bacteria present. Otherwise I'd expect those to be fully colonized within 3-4 days after a thorough shake.

they wont shake.. like about 3" of the top came loose and thats it.. i beat the piss out of them also to the point that i was afraid of breaking one on my hand..  i know why that happened and on my next jars it wont happen again though.. the thing that was bothering me is the rhizo running down the glass instead of jut even growth in the grains. and how long they have been going 10-22 to now...

I confess I am fighting a cold possibly flu and some how have to keep up on my myco work. Need to pour 10 pates for expansion of a clone tomorrow as well as PC some oats for some tiger drops and some LI. O yea then I need to clean the no pours and make transfers that are still in the cleaning up process. Picking and cleaning just a few was tough enough tonight..

Theraflu.. the lemon powder not the pills or whatever.. mix with like 2" of warm tap water and shoot it.. tastes like ass but is amazing.. like you aren't sick at all:)

I think Rhizo growth can happen for a few reasons, including it trying to outrun contamination.

This is me speculating... I'm a noob myself so seek further information.
The comments you refer to are in relation to mycelium growing on agar medium. There the mycelium is very securely and intimately attached to the growth medium that is also very homogenous in terms of its nutrient density. In those situations the mycelium may appear more tomentose when the nutrients are rich and easily available. Similarly, when the nutrients are scarce the mycelium may exhibit rhizomorphic growth - arguably sending out growth over longer distances to "find" additional nutrients.

Now if we apply similar reasoning to a nutrient base like WBS... we see that each seed or grain while they may be nutrient rich... the space between grains... is pretty much devoid of nutrients and so the rhizomorphic growth may be an adaptation to heterogenous nutrient bases that have selectively favored mycelial growth that will be successful in "reaching" the next nutritious spot... over an empty space and onto a new seed or grain.  Agar doesn't offer any such gaps.

Despite all that I will say ... that most likely the rule of thumb ...
rich nutrients = tomentose
lean nutrients = rhizomorph

is probably on over simplification that places too much importance on environmental factors influencing phenotype. My guess is what we observe is an interaction between genetic predispositions to be rhizomorphic or tomentose and environmental conditions that will stimulate its expression more or less...

But what about BRF cakes. ive seen some super rhizo stuff on those before, and there are a lot less gaps in that.

This could go back to my post about it outrunning contamination, as we both know cakes usually have some bacteria in there. REALLY contaminated cakes, like those contaminated with mold, can produce some thick, rope like, rhizo growth. I have only seen this rope like rhizo on cakes that had mold hiding inside. This is based on my experiences and is not proven fact.
