Thanks I appreciate that. I’ve gotten somewhat better since then, make less mistakes but have gotten too cocky as well, a couple sessions ago i ditched the gloves and ended up with like 4 out of 20 tranfers with satellite molds and a jar that got something too. Some ppl say they don’t use gloves but I always will from now on lol

good videos.
you bumped your plates tho in the first vid .. and you should always hold your agar bottle at a 45degree angle, underhanded

Haha yeah I did that and also poured some way too thick, you can see I kinda shook the bottle at some points. Ended up 2 plates short. I’ve poured a few hundred plates since then, though the other day I bumped a few plates AFTER i poured them but they made that big agar bubble across the top and side

You probably have way more agar experience than I do so I'm not trying to cratique you. I think I read Stamets recommend cooling your scalpel in the transfer to dish. In the event of an unseen contam hiding/emerging in the transfer from dish vapors and splattering agar from the cooling scalpel could spread said unseen contam.
Your dishes looked pretty good to me.

Oh, it looked to me like you were cooling your scalpel blade in the uncolonized part of your transfer from plate. Guess I misinterpreted what was happening. I have only worked agar a couple of times, watching that helps me be less intimidated.
EDIT: looks like I got confused who I was responding to. My comments were to Germs.

I figured this was true, I'm just not good enough to be as lazy as I want to be yet. I do a lot of open air stuff just because screw it, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Cooling the blade is plain waste of time, unless you want/need to take extremely small wedges.

I cool my blade so that i don't burn mycelium onto it the burnt on agar ruins them fast enough. And i feel like it recovers a bit quicker without burnt edges on the wedge. But you don't "need" to

I learned to wrap the trap in a black plastic bag...calms the skunk, and keeps me from getting sprayed...and shooting into a trap to kill the damn thing...just gotta get them to the water hole before morning, or they rip the bag then you're in the same position I was in this morning lmfao!

I Confess I never measure anything. Whether it's agar or grain or coir. I suck. It's all Willy nilly for me. I'm sure I could do better, but fuck it. I'm happy with what I do.
I also confess I love seeing awesome grows the true pros put on here!

I don't see why you wouldn't cool your blade. I do take small transfer wedges though. But even then, I have seen some of my edible cultures literally melt away on top of the agar because of a hot blade. Takes forever to recover after that compared to taking wedges with the myc still mostly intact. Shit that you can get away with when dealing with cubes doesn't always fly with edibles. And vice versa I suppose

Critique kriˈtēk/Submit noun 1. a detailed analysis and assessment of something, especially a literary, philosophical, or political theory.
Notice I never said Germs was wrong or he shouldn't. I simply said hey, I think Stamets recommends cooling in the transfer to dish. And then I pointed out how I think his stuff looks good....
IMO critiquing would involve telling Germs he was doing something wrong.
It was just an idea from something I read. IMO sharing ideas is part of raising the bar. It wasn't suppose to be anything personal or something to suggest I have a superior process. If you think it's dumb and have success w/o cooling your blade then do what works for you.

I confess I'm going to have nightmares about my shrooms being devoured by massive giant insects again after seeing this listing. 10/10 nightmares for days. You should order this for all of your favorite amateur mycologists.
