8th june 2004 the planet Venus, will be traveling in front of the sun for 6 hours. No living human has ever seen this before, and only 4 have been reported in human history.
I am calling in sick that day
There will also be a total lunar eclipse the 4th May. Really looking forward to this Anyone tripped while there is a solar/lunar eclipse? If so send me a trip report

Sky and telescope magazine online has taken the photographs of the 1882 transit and turned them into a movie...go to skyandtelescope.com and check their search box for transit of venus, and they have two versions of the movie in Quicktime.

I wouldn't imagine that Venus crossing between the Earth and the Sun would create anything visable, would it?

Yes, you should go outside with your telescope and look at the sun, for a long extended period of time.
Please don't take that seriously...

Damn... I took you seriously for like 3 seconds, then I read the bottom of your post!
But I have a cool pair of solar eclips glasses that I bought like 9 years ago durning the last complete solor eclips in my region. They were $65 and I find it a damn shame that I have only been able to use them once. I guess I could try welding.

Venus is a very big planet, so u can see it passing with ur eyes only (and shades).
The lunar eclipse will be visable from S. America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Aus the 4th May

Venus isn't that big of a planet, it's roughly the same size as the earth, just a little bit smaller though.

I dont know the the size of it, but its bigger then mercury. Mercury did a pass last year 7th May. U needed a telescope for that 1. If my info is correct, it should look like a small black ball travelling across the sun for 6 hours, and u can see it with ur eyes using solar eclipse glasses.

just get a piece of cardboard and cut a tiny viewing hole in it. then look through that. last time there was a solar eclipse i was outside just chillin, it didnt effect me.. i was lookin at it to. as long as you dont stare at it for like 15 minutes straight it prolly doesnt even matter that much

Or you could just take a Doritos bag, rip it open, and look through the shiny inside part of the bag... that works well.
