At what temperature are you incubating your bags? Lows temps might be beneficial when not heat treating the substrate.

How much substrate can you load on those bags?

Incubation room temperature is about 21-23°C.
These bags are pretty big , I've put 2.5kg of sub on this shitload, but I might load up to 4kg easily.

I've had a little moisture issue on my other bags as plain sawdust doesnt absorb water as well as HWFP (whereas I put 65% limed water which normal), thus to avoid that some water stagnate at the bottom of the bags, I had to flip them upside down after 1 week incubation, and again after 2 weeks.

Once again I'm still experimenting to find the appropriate growing process from my point of view.

After 1 week spent in the FC, my blocks start pinning pretty well.

Just to remind you, both sawdust substrate have been supplemented with only 10% organic wheat bran.

P. pulmonarius (Phoenix oyster)

P. ostreatus (Pearl oyster)

Lime pasteurization of sawdust or wheat straw [Re: odawg]
    #25068116 - 03/16/18 08:18 AM (6 years, 14 days ago)

A quick update about my various experimentations using hydrated lime.

A 2nd flush of P. ostreatus and P. pulmonarius has been harvested.

I still have a last bag producing the 2nd flush.
Here is a pic :

I put my greenhouse outside as temperatures are good enough now in France for P. ostreatus (8-16°C). I only spray the bags twice a day as RH outside is already high. However it is a bit too cold outside for P. pulmonarius, thus they grow slower than usual and produce smaller fruits.

My next try using lime pasteurization will be with another strain P. ostreatus, and H. erinaceus (Lion's mane) and P. eryngii (King oysters).

In my experience, oak is not suitable for P. ostreatus and P. eryngii.
If you could find poplar... Search for places where they make pallets, they usually work with pine and poplar and some places use different saw for each wood...
