Anyone growing culinary herbs?
    #24748858 - 10/30/17 11:11 PM (6 years, 4 months ago)

Anyone here growing and cooking with culinary herbs?

The ones that have done best for me are Rosemary, Sage, and Italian Oregano. Basil does well too but I really prefer growing perennials. I have a few other herbs in trial: Marjoram, French Tarragon, Spearmint, and Greek Oregano. I'm also growing Oreganillo, which is a desert native to the U.S. Southwest and northern Mexico.

My favorite to cook with is the Italian Oregano (Origanum x majoricum). It is a hybrid between Oregano and Marjoram. The flavor is so nice. Everything tastes delicious when cooked with this herb and some olive oil and salt and fresh garlic. Italian Oregano is definitely a good herb to try if you're not already growing it.

What herbs do you like to grow and cook with?

I've got a big Rosemary bush outside, it seems to survive snowfall just fine. Sage, italian oregano, I had some greek oregano but it pretty much died when I was clearing my garden for the winter, always have some basil going. Actually in the garden I also had some purple basil and thai basil, but I did not save any for the winter. That may be it for me herb wise, perhaps there's something I'm forgetting.

edit: Oh, I've got some german thyme as well, that also seems to survive outside just fine.
