All pic are done with this method

Mono

Lcs

This guy's just starting

Oh and this ghetto sheet.  1/2inch socket on a metal lid. Pinsize hole in the back for clean pouring. It doesn't drip either.

One of my tubs broke (#5 pp) so I cut a chunk out and melted it around the socket for a cap  you can actually see it in the bottom corner it's got a little tail so I don't have to get my fingers near the socket to remove cap.

You guys remember I said I was gonna try some unfiltered gw LC's at 2% strentgh? Well, last time...

6 grams of ground-up wheat to 300ml h2o. Can't see shit, it's taking forever, myc does not seem to be grabbing the sediment as it does when I add just one gram per 500ml and it's colonizing the sides of the jar and the surface already but I have no way to know how the LC is progressing and there's still a shit ton of sediment at the bottom. Last time.

On the other hand, I inoculated some LME LC's at 2% strength the other day as per Bod's suggestion and they're looking very good. Added stir bars in the jars to stir the liquid once a day cos I suspect these LC's are gonna grow very thick with so much nutrition available.
Might switch to this ratio depending on factors such as the speed of colonization of the broth and the leap off on grains.

:havesomescience:

Still, would not recommend this ratio to people who want to familiarize themselves with the visual indications of a clean vs bacterial LC. Far easier to do that with .1 and .2% strength.

i finally have enough time to pour more lc today but the broth i want to use has colonized the surface just a bit.

anything out of the ordinary to expect? of course i cant find it, but i think ive read to use LC before they fully colonize cause they get sluggish

I would say nothing out of the ordinary. Like you said sluggish compared but it shouldn't be that noticeable imo.

Nah you'll be fine, nothing to worry about. I've even used LC's several months old sitting at room temp that developed a really thick layer of matted myc on the surface and they performed just fine.

On another note, how thick can I get? No wonder the unfiltered LC's at 2% strentgh I posted above are behaving weird and seem to have stalled out.
My LC's always have next to no GE, which is fine at lower nute strentghs, but if you want myc to munch through 6 grams of grain sediment you are gonna need adequate GE to support all that activity. I'm gonna take off the lid and leave only the sfd covering the mouth of the jar just to see what happens.

I'm about to toss mine out. Can't see a dam thing. The lower amount of unfiltered lc is looking good  starting to clear up.

I'm seeing with higher nute amounts I'm not getting those pretty balls of mycelium. Thinking because it's got more to grab onto vs a crystal clear 1 g to 500ml lc.

Hey guys just throwing this out there, but I have been having great results using 3 marbles in my LC jars for easy agitation. It actually seems to shred the mycelium better than the broken glass I used.

EDIT

O yea I wanted to share these as well. 5 inch, 12g ALL metal dispenser needles. They come in ten for just over $17 from eBay. They reach all the way to the bottom of a pint jar with a bit of needle to spare. They do have smaller all metal ones as well. Just got mine the other day.

It´s the same clone in all jars, the two strongest jars have zero visible recovery. Why does the culture look more and more miserable the higher the nutes? Anyone have a theory?

Ya´ll can comment in my thread if this is off topic but I don´t think Josex minds discussing here either. Most will see it here anyway. And to compact this thread with more relevant information

Hell son, you've been busy.

I dunno man, I have 5 lme LC's at 2% strength and they're growing nice and strong, growing at a normal speed I'd say.

I´m almost about to start doubting the poke for the two strongest recipes

But then again the mycelium in the 0.8 and 1.5% does not behave like a 100% healthy one

Never failed me for LC's. Biopsy to agar or other media can def fail sometimes.

Would you say that the LC´s with visible growth contain only mycelium and no other organisms? To me they look like only myc is growing but I´m really new to LCs so I´m still learning what to look for

[/image][/url] well this is what we were looking at and here are some more

this was undisturbed from day 1 and the 1 colony that floated (for some? reason) and grew just fine and the myc was crawling up the glass like mad.

here is a qt of some golden light malt lc.

some 1/2 gal lc shots

:borat:

Now I get all that talk about the jellyfish, jeez it took me a while.
Yeah that's pretty normal. Never got it so freaking big myself, though. For me it's always like a small myc colony  growing on the surface that sprouts tentacle-like extensions into the water. When I first got it I thought the filter had failed and a weird mold colony had managed to grow on the surface.

Don't be afraid of giving those bitches a good swirl!
