White mushroom in Horse dung?
    #2473845 - 03/25/04 07:14 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hello. I'm kinda new to the whole mycology thing, so bear with me!  :shake: I was driving down a street maybe a mile from my house and I noticed lots and lots of white mushrooms growing by some horses. They're white, more of a pointy shape... argh. Kinda like half of a lemon? Yeah, sorry for that description. I haven't been able to get an up-close look at 'em. I'm in north San Diego ( Is that too much info? ) and I'd like to know if it's worth asking the owner of the property if I could take some samples for the mycology department at school.
Thanks!
B

I'm going to take a stab and assume they are some sort of coprinus... they are well known to fruit from dung/compost.... often thought of as a pest when trying to fruit outdoors...... ????? just off the top of my head....

Well... If any of you know where Bonsall/Fallbrook area is, I'm there. I've never actually seen these around. Infact, I rarely ever see mushrooms in the first place around here, due to the arid climate. Do you think I should go out and pick some tommorow? It's like a mile from here. Easily attainable on bike.

Okay. Just got back from picking one... Disappointed. Doesn't look like anything I've seen and for some reason, the site's not letting me upload a pic. It says server cannot be found. No bluing upon pressing, no distinct features.
