Elections are popularity contests. Popularity isn't based on intelligence. That's what I've been saying.
If gaining popularity isn't based on intelligence or pure chance, what is it based on? Doing and saying things that you THINK may make you popular with a very large population.

Trump has a certain level of street intelligence. He knows how to take advantage of certain types of people. I think most people are instantly aware he is a fraud and is lying about just about everything. There is another segment of the population who are credulous suckers. They seem completely inured by trumps simplistic, empty rhetoric. These are the same people who manage to have their bank accounts emptied by 20 year olds making minimum wage telemarketing for professional scammers.

They were smart enough. They just had a certain minimal level of ethics and morality that makes behaving like trump too distasteful to use themselves.

Let me rate Trump...
Charisma = little below average for a president....if you are apart of his base.
Looks= definitely not the mold of Romney or Obama. He's got to be the first Orangutan color. I am honestly attacken back when I see it at the VA.
Charm= little above average.
Marketing= through the roof. Since when did red hats with a slogan,become one of the most effective and inexpensive campaign expenses in a presidential election? Hate him or love him he was able to take on both parties and win.

Does not compute, Trump is dumb and popular. Being popular is easy and any person can do it. Repeat, Trump is dumb.

If it was easy, anyone could do it. Why do you think it's easy?

I find it hilarious how many people are still running around thinking that his 'acting dumb' is part of some grand scheme of his. No bones about it, he's nearly full retard. The fact that he wants to take an IQ test, and make his score a matter of public record is quite priceless. I really hope that he does go through with it.

That's not what got him elected, though. Popularity isn't based on intelligence. The other people could be geniuses, but that wouldn't be a factor in gaining popularity.
He appealed to simple minded people, which is a significant demographic.
The real reason Trump won though, is because there were about ten thousand Republican candidates, and he only needed the largest share of votes. He could have potentially won the Republican primary with only 15% of the R vote. On top of that, he ran against an absolutely terrible candidate. That, coupled with the electoral college, skewing the vote in his favor. Had there been more mainstream democrats running in the democrat race, Bernie very well could have beaten Clinton, as politicians like her are a dime a dozen, and Bernie is a more unique character.
I still can't believe Trump won, given that he tried to reduce the debates, literally, to a hand (dick) measuring contest.
No, this race to the bottom is not about intelligence, and I have to wonder if it's even about charisma anymore.

I think trump is a prime example of savant syndrome. He can manipulate like no other but fails at almost everything else.

Savant Syndrome? He may be autistic, but... I don't find him particularly skilled in any way, shape, or form. He's a pathological liar, and also a billionaire, so people put stock in his bullshit. Kinda like when rich people go crazy, and we call them 'eccentric'.
