? for anyone using an Acurite hygrometer from walmart
    #2473363 - 03/25/04 03:03 PM (20 years, 8 days ago)

The unit is dark grey, and it displays temperature indoors/outdoors, and the humititidy indoors. Im asking whoever has one if you have had troubles with the humidity readings? Because i have it in my terrarium, with a layer of damp perlite on the bottom, but the walls of it completely dry, and its giving me a reading of HIGH for humidity (which in the instructions means above 99% rh). It just seems off to me because the walls, and the top part of the terrarium are completely dry.... Anyone have the same problem?

I got one that was white from Wal-mart for about $14, it seems to have great accuracy. I'm sure it's accurate, if you have damp perlite in there, it should be doing the job very well. Put your hand in the terrarium, if it feels like it does on a humid day, like really humid, then it's prolly fine. If it feels just as dry as the air outside the terrarium you might wanna calibrate the hygromter.

hey I'm having the same problem with a different model. Turn it off and then turn it back on. Mine was stuck on 99% as well but now is working fine! Good Luck!

I just bought one like that! Seems to work better than the others that I've tried. Condensation can be affected by the temperature of the air surrounding the outside of your terrarium also.

I dont think you can calibrate a digital hygrometer...can you? But I will try turning it off, then on again! Thanks for the replies!

most of the electronic models i have used did the same thing. when water condensates on the board and meter inside, it will read high until it dries out.
