Similar SAB principles should be followed for taking prints. Work from an outside direction so you’re not putting your bare skin over a print and stuff like that should be assumed for the layman. I work on the outside when I place the caps over the foil for prints. There are also long handheld tweezers you can use while moving a cap to place over the foil without exposing your skin over anything. When wrapping the prints up I work from right to left in a row then go to the next row so each print is folded and no print is lifted above another print. in addition the way I fold the sterile side underneath the print, that side is not exposed until the print has dried and you fold it over the print to seal it. I simply flip that side over and fold 3 sides. This entire time I’ve used the top of the tray foil as a barrier from things above and then when I flip the print foil over the print, it is sealed and folded. I point the print itself towards the bottom of the SAB while doing all of this. So it’s very minimal exposure when it’s folder or the cap is laid over the foil. Using one of these is also beneficial. It’s a long pair of tweezers that are stainless steel.
One thing I see a lot is people cutting foil after the cap has been removed. Unless you are using a flowhood, I would not suggest doing that. It exposes the print far longer to the SAB. I prefer quick fold and it’s sealed. Also put it into perspective, if you do 3 prints or a few no problem doing things like that after. I’ve seen tent folding of foil ect. But if you are doing 50 prints to spread spores to the world, that’s a different ball game. It would take 20 times longer and be more work to do methods similar on each foil than thinking assembly line, production type consistency. Some things look cool but are not so practical in the end, depending on the situation. So you always have to account for the context of that situation.
I think my favorite part of this is the cookie rack. One pull and all caps are removed. The foil is sealed and boom let em dry. Whereas, if I need my SAB to take 50 more prints I can’t have prints sitting in the sab for 3 days backing up all my myco culture work, inoculation ect. These boot boxes are also one other thing I love because my spores can drop in them and not hold up my whole assembly line for prints. If I need 300 prints, it’d a must to keep work area free for the next crop of prints.
I like how you are updating and marking this more comprehensive. When I was making prints in an SAB I never would cut the foil after printing either, pretty much the same thought process you outline here. Thanks for keeping this updated with best practices, it’s amazing how much we take for granted after doing this for years. Keeping it real eats

Well photoshop rules! Duh, but... Avery sells sheets of labels. Like address labels that one can print out. So, Avery has invested in providing a basic user friendly custom design website. But fir anyone not photoshop proficient it works. I created that label in half an hour and printed a PDF sheet of labels, don't have to buy thier label sheets.

I use plastic sword toothpicks, stabbing a new one into all the caps wanted for prints. Then I only flame my scissors. The sword stays until they go to the dehydrator. Makes a handy handle, cheers

Also sewing pins with the circular ball at the end work. You can flame sterilize without melting the ball.

I just got to say, the few prints I’ve used this method on have turned out extremely clean. I use the long tongs and ss scissors and don’t make physical contact with the fruit and do all the prep in front of the flowhood. I’ve only germinated a handful so far from prints using this method but all have been much cleaner than other prints I have received.

Hey eats, thanks for the great writeup! I am planning on running this TEK for my first set of prints. I was curious if you think these would work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BCIHE2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have racks for the pans already, but I was unsure if the included lids would work just as well as placing the whole tray into a Sterilite for printing.

I really like those, should be just enough head space but not take up much room. Added to my amazon cart. Not sure how how much weight those lids can hold but imagine that since the ad says handwash only probably aren’t very strong or handle heat well. Worth a try though.
