Rumor has it that Goldman Sachs is going to get into the crypto market in a big way! I expect the price to really explode if this is true

Oh shit, I knew something was weird on my phone recently - it was that my bitcoin tracker wasn't running so I didn't even notice it shot up so heavily in the last few days/weeks

Sweet, Goldman Sachs is investing in our counter culturalist exchange medium. It's like that Bill Hicks bit about the anti-marketing market. That's a smart market

Bitcoin isn't necessarily about any "counter culturalist" thing
Some of us see it as an incredible investment opportunity....I got into it when the price was just $340, for example. It's a long term investment, I think.

The intention of it was decentralization. Surely I don't have to spell this out. Either way though, I'm happy for you. I have a little money in it myself. But I'm still not gonna cheerlead for the banks to get in on it, personally.

I haven't been following the altcoins...but I originally used Litecoins as a way into the market (Litecoin mining->Litecoins at excahnge->Bitcoins) and I hear they are still doing well. Ethereum is all the rage now, too, and it has some applicability to the rest of the altcoin market because new altcoins are usually initially priced in Ethereum.

If you know that much about it, you will know that the big boys getting on board is not the same thing as centralizing any aspect of Bitcoin
As well, if you held bitcoin you have held on to it because you perceive its rise as a form of money and obviously want it to do well. In that case, why not jump up and down at the banks getting on board? If they drive up the price, we win? Don't we?

i've been keeping tabs and want to buy some more btc just don't know if this is a good time with the fork and everything coming soon. i've been periodically buying some btc and buying some more with the profits from the price increase but i'm not sure if i should wait till after the fork for my next buy.

It's certainly not a long term investment. It's like a junk stock with zero inherent value. It will crash stunningly one day. Take your profits and stop being greedy before the other "investors" do the same thing and the entire fraud collapses.

Being risky is what makes it a good investment. Everything is going to crash eventually.
It's already at $6000. I'm going to invest once it crashes again. Or should I do it now? What is it going to do Trendal? Keep going up?

yeah sucks. Why not sell now before it crashes? Seriously how greedy can one be that they aren't satisfied with a 2000% return. You know it can't go up forever. Everyone says "this time it's different" but every bubble collapses eventually.

I thought it would crash - for sure! - after it reached the price of gold...it didn't. Then, I thought, it wouldn't get much over $4000 before crashing again...and here we are at $6000
Honestly, I don't know what I would do if I were in your situation. The bubble could break tomorrow (though I don't really think it will) or it could break in a year or two - at which point I don't really know where the price will be ($10k? $100k??). It's a gamble...but if you are a betting man, with the cash to spare, then I'd say go for it.

If the banks start getting involved, that's when you'll know it's time to bail. They will extract as much profit out of the system and then dump the refuse on the little guy who doesn't have a supercomputer making split second trading decisions. When it's all little guys doing the trading, the little guy has a chance. You have no chance once the professionals get involved. Remember that unlike a stock or real currency, there is absolutely nothing backing the value of bitcoin. It isn't creating wealth. Unlike real equities, it's a zero sum game. Its value is only what people have paid for it and to extract the money back out the price will go right back to zero.

I know every bubble crashes, and that there will be crashes of bitcoin in the future. There already have been - in late 2013 it shot up to over $1000, but quickly lost most of its value.
This time feels different. People are getting on board. Governments are getting on board. It now seems like only a matter of time before we see some real money get on board...and then the skies the limit

Quote:
I could care less about bitcoin. I don't know why I said anything about it. The blockchain is a technology which is a good technology. We actually use it. It will be useful in a lot of different things. God bless the blockchain. Cryptocurrencies, digital currencies, I think are also fine. JPMorgan moves $6 trillion around the world every day, and we don't do it in cash, it's done digitally. If it can be done digitally with the blockchain, so be it. But it will still be a dollar cryptocurrency. What I have an issue with is a non-fiat cryptocurrency. So crypto sterling, euro, yen, they are all fine. I don't personally understand the value of something that has no actual value. You all can do whatever you want and I don't care. "I could care less what bitcoin trades for, how it trades, why it trades, who trades it. If you're stupid enough to buy it, you'll pay the price for it one day. I've also told people that it can trade at $100,000 before it trades to zero. Tulip bulbs traded for $75,000 or something like that. "The only value of bitcoin is what the other guy'll pay for it. Honestly I think there's a good chance a lot of the buyers out there are out there jazzing it up every day so that maybe you'll buy it too, and take them out. "I quite mean that by the way. People are very good at manipulating the press these days and getting news out. Every day, you have CNBC, nonstop bitcoin — Who cares about bitcoin? The world economy's so big, JPMorgan alone, $6 trillion, we move all this money, and bitcoin in total, all these currencies, $50 billion dollars, maybe a billion dollars trades a day. "The other thing I've always [said] about bitcoin, governments — and this is not a technological statement — governments are going to crush it one day. Governments like to know where the money is, who has it and what you're doing with it, in case you haven't noticed. Right? "And governments like to control their currency, like to control their own economy. So China's already put curbs on it. Japan, they say Japan accepted bitcoin. No they didn't. What I gather Japan did was they call it J-coin. It's a yen cryptocurrency. It's not a non-fiat [digital currency]. "People have said legitimately ok, it's close to gold. Not really. Gold is limited, it's been around for along time. [People also say bitcoin is] close to a fiat currency. Not really. A fiat currency is when a government says this is your legal tender, you have to give it and accept it. "And a central bank — of course they can misuse it. The central bank [can also] inflate it. So there is a use case for bitcoin. If you live in Venezuela, North Korea, if you're a criminal, great product. I mean that. It's better than cash or deposits in that country. Cuba. "But this is the last time I'm ever going to answer questions about bitcoin because I really don't care. "When I made that 'stupid statement' [calling bitcoin a] fraud, my daughter sent me an email saying, 'Dad, I own two bitcoins.' My formerly smart daughter."

Take your profits and invest in something real. You don't know when it's going to crash but it will in a stunning fashion.
