humidity too low? help out the fool
    #24713969 - 10/16/17 01:46 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hey all. Just started fruiting my first grow in a shotgun fruiting chamber 2 days ago. I've got 4 fingers worth of perlite , have been fanning/misting 5-6 times a day, 12/12 light schedule. However, I've noticed very slow growth. As in, only 2 noticeable pins. My temperature/humidity gauge currently read 78 degrees F with an RH of only 62%. Obviously that's way too low for a pin set to properly form. Please help out with any suggestions.

Did you let them consolidate for a week after 100% colonization?

Everything looks good. You don't have to worry about misting and fanning that much. Twice a day is fine. And throw that hygro out. Check my post out. It relates

You're fanning too much. During the day you're humidity will range between 50-80% so you're on the lower end. Make sure the FC is built to spec following a reliable Tek. Make sure you're fanning enough to acheive adequate surface conditions.  Also, it's only been two days. Be patient.

2 of the jars had 5 or so days of consolidation and the other developed pins before taken out of the jar so I stuck it in the chamber

Sounds like I perhaps am giving too much attention to the cakes, I'll let them do their thing

Dvnsr is absolutely correct. If built properly, the sgfc will take care of almost ALL fae needs, on its own. In the past, I've gone so far as to not fan at all. If you're misting when needed, you're actively using fae just by opening the lid.

The room you're in doesn't have any unnatural moving air, does it? I.e fan, open vents.

Dv is spot on about the hygrometer, and thermometer as well. With all the holes in that tub, there's no use keeping track of tub atmosphere. Constant airflow, and ambient changes will never give you a solid reading. The only climate you have to tend to is the microclimate of the cakes.

So much of this.

Your humidity is fine. Theres a microclimate of 90-99% humidity as moisture evaporates off the vermiculite. Your hygrometer is right on the wall next to holes it will never give am accurate reading. You really shouldn't be measuring humidity, pay attention to the cakes not a plastic gauge.

The only thing I ever monitor is room temperature, my house likes to get in the 80s if I'm not careful and my window unit only has 1 working setting, really fucking cold.

Like others have said, throw out the hygrometer, your cakes are the best hygrometer you will ever have. Here is a great tek on proper surface moisture (thanks CBK for the write up and thanks again Bodhi for the plethora if teks you've wrote and gathered, you da man)

Make sure your SGFC is built properly, 1/4" holes on all 6 sides on a 2" grid, and 4-6" perlite (I use 5 personally)

In fact, read everything here and watch everything here

Between all of that you will find all the answers you seek and learn some pretty cool shit too
