Bruising on grain jars
    #24707878 - 10/13/17 06:54 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Was wondering if bruising happened from shaking grain jars? These jars are about 3 days after I shook them.

Most of them look like this tho

Looks like bruising to me.  Could be penicillium, but doubt it.

the one on the left is fucked, bacteria. no bacteria smell perceivable
that's 2 days after a shake, poor recover. it will still thicken up and appear more and more like clean spawn. but if it takes 2 days to even look like that you know it's fucked.

this is the kind of spawn someone would say looked clean, smelled clean and mushroomy. then gets mold on the first flush and doesn't want to blame the spawn...
it was the spawn.

the jar in the middle recovered from a shake just fine
the jar on the right is recovering from a shake

these are all oats.

They should, yes.  I would not count them out.  Keep colonizing and keep and eye on it is all.

Could be, yes, like I originally stated.  However I have had bruising before from shaking as well.  As it is in the jar, and sealed, it can't hurt to let it run course for a few more days.  All we gotta do is just keep an eye on it.

Do you have any odor coming from the jar(s) at all?

id say it could hurt. by getting OPs hopes up as he stares at it, contemplating fruiting because 'i want mushrooms'(huge waste of time/resources)
its 3days past shaking. myc doesnt bruise in a jar from shaking like that. and if it does its gone in 24hrs or less ime.

if i fruited something like those jars? id mold out before the first flush and id blame my bucket tek 'pasteurization'(should be blaming the spawn)

a self made derailment that leds to verm in grain jars or dousing a room in lysol. and it always starts by ignoring bad spawn.

I have had myc bruise in a jar.

Nor is anyone telling him to fruit it.  They aren't even ready to begin with.  If it is a contam, it will be well known.

I would know throw a jar away without being sure.  Nor would I recommend that?

Keeping it in its jar, and monitoring, nothing wrong with that what so ever.

yes there is. those jars are trash. its 3 days post shake and its not recovered. thats trash.

just speaking from experience. ive grown lots of mold and spawned lots of questionable shit. IME/O op is wasting his time.

if he keeps those and gets 1 flush with no green, ill ban myself for a month.

To me there's no reason to do anything but try to case and top fruit that jar. If you want to salvage that is. Otherwise dump it now so you can reuse the jar.

Leaving it for monitoring is fine it will thicken up and appear more like clean spawn. Then it gets used and fucks a tub.
As soon as you start tossing bad spawn like that you'll spend a lot less time seeing green

I toss those bitches asap.  Out of 12 I just tossed 3 that could of "possibly" been contaminated.  Those jars are getting knocked up tonight.  No reason to waste a good jar waiting to fruit bad shrooms.

Post a pic of the jar.  If it hasn't spread it isn't anything but bruising at this point.  IMO, I would not toss the jar.  Keep it and fruit it when it is 100% in it's own separate container.  Check my signature for mini casing or the cup o shrooms.
