Do You Read the OP?

I'm super guilty of this. I'll often just read the title or responses or skim the OP.
And it makes me look like an idiot sometimes.

It's common sense to read the OP so you understand all the facts and can have a good conversation about the topic and not ask dumb questions that were already answered in the OP.

People ask dumb questions already answered in the thread all the time tho. I should have added another option for reading the entire thread.

Like in SR or the health forum or any forum or thread that it's likely to be asking for advice I'll definitely read the OP. But in the pub the thread topic from OP to page 3 can vary so wildly I rarely see the point. Especially since the OP is rarely worth reading if it's not being discussed beyond the title. Which happens often enough here.
I think I have a pretty high ready comprehension tho. Not sentence structure and specific subject wise but overall arcing theme wise. I don't usually read links either and can generally find out what's going on by reading responses.
Tends to be more entertaining that way TBH. Like some kind of word puzzle.

Of course I do. I'll even skim through and speed read incredibly long threads and posts(take note OP ) before imparting my pearls of wisdom. It actually bothers me when someone says "1 + 1 = 2" and 5 posts later some lazy person asks "How much is 1 + 1 ?"
I see it often, people posting things that have already been posted 4 posts above theirs.

I know what OP refers to, but what does it actually stand for? I always thought it was 'our post' or 'our poster'. Something like that..

You know I think I read way more when I posted less. And modded less. I think part of that issue is whatever I've got to say has often already been said (and same with most 3 page threads that stay on topic. Repetitive responses are a given but I don't like making them.
So I like to skim and post before I get it in my head to not post.

Original post or original poster.
No one ever told me that and I never looked it up. I did, just now after I responded, to be 100% sure I wasn't being stupid. I think the only stupidity I really have in this regard is over confidence in my high reading comprehension.

I thought way more people did this
But you know I'm calling it high reading comprehension because I dunno what else to call it. My mind actually works slowly in comprehending language. This disability caused me to get low grades on many tests in school. It takes me a long time to read a paragraph and the more I read the more I forget. So I kinda learned to compensate for this by being able to skim through and pick out the important words and make the picture on as little information as possible. Can't tell you this is a good thing but it's how I process pretty much all language.
People get annoyed if you ask them to repeat themselves too much. Like you're not listening. It's understandable. I've learned it's easier to pick out an important word or two and form up the gist of what's going on and then guess. I normally guess right cuz people normally say the same shit.
This morning someone asked me "you tell me ow to the benton o the interns place?" took me all of 3 seconds to figure out he said entrance not benton and insurance instead of interns. He was asking me where the entrance for the insurance building was. I've been doing this since I was a child so I rarely think about it.. But I think I'd rather have over confidence in this 'ability' than no confidence in understanding and responding because of my disability.
I've had a college reading level since 6th grade. I dunno if that makes me smart or college kids stupid.
I was under the impression most people just skimmed or skipped over most of a thread. The responses I read can certainly make it seem that way.

Honestly, there are a lot of variables. The original poster is a big factor. Depends who it is. Some people just post shit, but their threads spark excellent off topic conversations.

you know I've come to really like honey cashew or almond butter. I like peanut butter sweetened with honey too. It tastes sooo much better than sugar.
I also prefer it a little crunchy. Most creamy almond butter I like is kinda more like a thick paste than butter. Think tiny microscopic nuts spread evenly all throughout. Mmm

I always read the original post first and then I go to the last page and read the last 5 or so posts to get an idea of where the conversation went.
If it's juicy, funny or interesting(ex. Two members beaking of at each other is entertaining), I read pages backwards and comb the replies.
I often find the last few replies to be of no relevance to the OP, like in this case Lol, so I just stick to replying to the op
