agar should always be solid... othewise you can't use it. room temp is best, but as long as it's solid you should be fine. you can leave plates sealed in your pc for a really long time. if they were sterilized properly they won't contam, only dry out eventually

Just wondering. i have 2 sets of plates going using PDA.. do your guys flakes dissolve? or can you still see them in the agar mixture when done? Also.. why sugar and agar? why not just one or the other? not sure on the purpose of each is all..

Why? I use a premix of MEA that I mix with cold water and pour in cold so it doesn't solidify at all. Never had an issue that I know of.

Well of course you don't have to, but it can't hurt telling them fucking noobs to wait, so they don't fuck it up
The reason I do it is because by the time I finish pouring the last plate half the bactch has solidified already.

Right, but what is the advantage of waiting? I don't get what will get fucked up by putting non-solid plates in the PC?

Because you could by accident make a batch with very little agar that just won't solidify, so if you wait till the agar cools down before loading them plates in the pc you could check if the mix will solidify or not. It wouldn't be funny to sterilize a batch of agar only to discover they aren't solid.
That "accident" may happen for several reasons, you can be a beginner eyeballing the amounts, or maybe someone trying for the first time an agar-agar they don't know the strenght of, or maybe you're drunk af and can't even read the scale, or your scale is fucked up, you name it. You certainly don't need to wait till the plates solidify, but I'd always recommend a beginner to do so.

it also helps with condensation

I think a big reason no pours get condensation is because you trap everything evaporating from the hot water inside the container. let it evaporate completely and you have less of a problem with internal moisture content

I've tried putting the lids on the plates as soon as I'm done pouring and loading them in the pc with all the condensation from the steam (I do that most of the times). I've also tried letting all the condensation evaporate before putting the lids on (cos I had to take a crap or something). Same shit and if there's a difference it's negligible at most. If someone says they noticed an improvement I'll trust they're being sincere, it's just not my experience.
IMO, main reason everyone should wait the 5 or so minutes it takes the plates to solidify before loading them in the pc is because if you don't, you could drop a plate accidentaly and the still liquid agar mix could smudge up the tape, which is something I for one would not like happening.

I don't Well... maybe that one time I poured 300ml of extra water into the measuring jar, don't know what I was thinking or that one time I got this shitty agar that came in thin strands that just wouldn't solidify using standard ratios. Shit may indeed happen and it won't hurt to wait some minutes till the agar solidifies, above all if it's your first time doing it.

I pour mine and cover with paper towels for about 45 mins .. has helped with condensation a lot. I also swirl them after cooldown but still warm helps a lot too
