Dunking after fruiting (but before pinning)

AFOAF is having his first go at the PF tek, with 10 jars- PB, LY, and EQ. Jars colonized in just under a month, but were not dunked to avoid contam risk. After a week in the fruiting chamber, 2 cakes started showing pins, but also some bluing. Another 6 days later (yesterday) both of the cakes were harvested, one with a weight of 10 g. fresh, and the other just had some aborts (of course he's happy to get anything!). Now one cake has just 1 fatass growing on it, and the rest nothing at all, but they're all a little blue. Would it be cool to dunk the cakes now, or should he just wait and see if they pin and grow? Thanks for any advice you may give. BTW, he's using perlite humidification, fanning 3 times a day, and temps ranging in the high 60's to mid 70's.

aren't the temps for fruiting supposed to be in the mid 80's?

try to keep at least 70f for fruiting. You should pick that one fatass then dunk them over nite. It would be the wise choice.

mid 80's would be great for incubating. Fruiting should be 70-75f

The main reason that they didnt produce a larger amount on the first flush was because you didnt dunk.Thats ok though cause you have lotsa time next flush,yes its ok to dunk now.Dunk them for 12-16 hours in the fridge overnight then roll them in vermiculite if you have it when you take them out.IT is also a good idea to add a small amount of peroxide to the water when you dunk them.This helps control contams.Then put them in your chamber like you did the first time.Youll notice a huge difference in yeild.I dunk before the first flush and never had any problems with contams.The way your cakes were turning blue,means they were dehydrated.

For dunking water use a mix of 10% h2o2 and 90% h2o
This will help control contams

yes you can dunk the cakes but your temp's are also too low, raise to 75 deg F for fruting.

i would not use that high of a mixture.....use 1/100 to 1/200

Do you have to put them in the fride for dunking?? or could you just use really cold water with ice? or just plain old room temp. water?

well the idea of keeping them cold is because there is less chance of contams taking hold if its cold.Ice water would work though.

Any temp of cool water works for hydrating the cakes, which is what your attempting to do by dunking.

I think he meant a 10% solution oh 3-6%H2O2 and 90% water
