I found the plate and took a pic. It is the same media. I have seen this once before and it seem like when I go back and take another transfer problem solved. So I didn't know if it was a poor isolate. It is a clone in this pic. Did the best I could to get light to shine through. EDIT a transfer from a clone line.

I mixed pasteurized coir/cow poo compost substrate using sterilized yogurt whey in place of boiling water. I've not seen this done before, but I had too much whey in the fridge leftover from making yogurt. I'll be mixing in spawn in the morning and filling a bunch of 2.25 quart mini trays.
Has anyone tried this before? (Using whey)
Is 2parts substrate to 1 of spawn a reasonable ratio for this project?

If you sterilized the whey any bio activity in it is dead. Pasteurization by definition means that some life is left to protect the substrate.

I thought about using some live whey, but figured I'd try it this time as a nutrition supplement.
I poured the freshly pressure cooked whey into a bucket with coir, cow compost and gypsum. Then I put the lid on and put a big sweater on the bucket.
Should I try adding live whey? My little trays are polypropylene so I could try sterilizing a tray or more too. It's not mixed yet, substrate bucket is still hot. The wbs spawn is still in jars.

Sounds like a mold farm waiting to happen. I don't know what you think you are going to accomplish but it sounds like you basically partially sterilized a bunch of contam prone media.

Probably. Many of my ideas become mold farms.
The same thing with boiling water rather than boiling hot whey is one of the only things I've tried that worked so far.
I don't recall where I got this method. I thought it was common. I will take the advice you connote and not waste much spawn on this experiment. Thanks man.
●Update it colonized, pinned, then turned green with a rich earthy odor. It's been turfed. No whey I'll try that again.

Probably okay but ditch the heater and keep an eye on things. Watch for bacteria blooms. Heaters cause more issues than they solve usually.

So here’s a question regarding second flushes. After a recent harvest I did a 12 hour soak and put the tub back into fruiting conditions, however I’m having trouble maintaining surface conditions. Now I realize this is due to water loss from the first harvest. So my question is, is there any reason to focus on surface conditions post first flush, or is it not worth the effort and just let it do it’s thing?

In other words, yes keep tending to them, if they get dry you need to mist them. If you feel like you're misting a shit ton and not getting the best results anymore, that's always been my queue to toss and go to the next project.

It just seems now that the the sub has shrunk down it keeps pinning on the sides, which I have no issue with, it’s just proving difficult to maintain better conditions on top compared to the microclimate between the sub and wall. That’s more or less what I was trying to figure out. More than likely I’ll get what I can in a few days and toss. Thanks for the help and nice write up cron

I tried my first grow last night. Had 7 quart jars of popcorn in the pc with about an inch and a half of water from the bottom of the jars, but while cooking the 2 hours all water evaporated and a few kernels burned. What did I do wrong?

You ran the PC dry. Either use more water or lower the temp so the weight isn't rattling so much. Also be sure the jars are elevated off the bottom of the pot.

They were elevated. I've just seen videos where people barely use the amount of water I had. Will try to turn the temp down on my second go tonight. Thanks

Do you guys find that isolating towards monoculture, away from original ms, sometimes weakens potency? Looking to hear some tc experiences....
