Leave it alone another 12 to 24 hours before you mist. Beads will appear on the surface the more the mycelium colonizes and consolidates. If it was under field capacity when you spawned it may dry out a little easier so keep the misting up if you see the beads dissapearing or not forming at all.
Don't worry. You can fruit in open air just by misting frequently.

Home depot has a huge 116 qt tote with a clear top. I wanna use it. Thoughts on how the conditions are different? i will likely use Bod's methods of unmodified tub and coir. also, thoughts on differences between doing a reishi grow and cubes other than substrate?

Okay so this has been an interesting one. Been getting nice almost full canopies in the last couple of weeks but this guy and another one did something similar to this.
Cooked coir and a light layer of coir on top. Surface conditions may of gotten a little on the dry side once but nothing severely noticeable. Not exactly sure what went wrong. Was thinking maybe contamination but there's no obvious signs that I see unless I'm missing something?
Sorry for the shitty pic I just woke up.

Hey guys this was a millet prep trial for a clone and it’s not looking right to me. Without going on to much does this look like it’s just too dry or is it contam of some sort? It looks like it’s havung a very hard time trying to colonize the millet completely. These are two different jars both acting weird and both from two different agar dishes

Looks pretty normal to me. It will thicken up a bit, it's just gaining ground right now.

It's been a few years since I did any mycology work, and I just read something that made me curious. Is it true that there is a new trend where people are starting their monotubs out in fruiting conditions, bypassing the colonization period after spawning?
All my experience/knowledge tells me this is a bad idea, but I could easily be wrong.
Any opinions?

Yes. People do this all the time.
The results speak for themselves but I would never argue that fruiting conditions from the beginning is somehow better. I think what this really shows us is that the time to pinning is genetic and you can put tubs into fruiting right away and the mycelium still will not fruit until it's damn good and ready.
All this proves is that "waiting until full colonization to put into fruiting conditions" being somehow a requirement for a good flush is a myth.
However, there definitely isn't any rigour in testing to see if one way is better than another. People have success with both ways. I always put into fruiting at spawn now just because it's easy to do and I like the idea of keeping air fresh.
But you really can't go wrong one way or the other. If you're not comfortable putting a sub into fruiting from the start then don't do it.

So I did a G2g transfer on these jars around 7/12, and shook them at 100% five days ago. Most of them recovered just fine, but 3/20 look grey as you can see on the right side jars.
My question is.. should I wait for those to colonize or do they look contaminated? I only want the best spawn so I don’t risk growing something that could potentially spread. 17 of my jars are about ready to spawn. What should I do with the other three that are slow and look a bit questionable?

So toss them out or spawn them? They were 100% five or six days ago so it was less than 2 weeks. I just shook them to see how fast they recovered.

Have a 55 qt monotub in its second flush and I was wondering if there is anyway to stop side pinning? The side mushes are growing like long snakes with small dark caps. The tub was lined but has been pushed back by now. I'm having a hard time getting the top surface to pin and the sides are exploding in ugly aborts.

Pictures? Was your liner attached to the sides? It's all about creating ideal conditions on the surface.

I can post pictures later, the liner was laidinto the tub when mixed and was stuck to the side of the sub until recently, the avg outside temps are 116 with 10% rh maybe, inside temps are held at 74-78. The holes were stuffed with poly and I have had troubles getting anything close to a decent pinset on the top surface.
