the yields mostly come from the grains not the substrate. the substrate just holds water, which you can replenish. so spawning colonized sub to more sub just isn't beneficial. your just putting the culture through unnecessary stress. if you want more mushrooms, make more spawn.

noted ; i always thought of the dry rings as FAE indicator , but mini droplets it is ! the surface on all my tubs have them so i'll stay put till i see them change ; thanks for the example
"All I know is co2 doesn't smell.
Mix your spawn and substrate more evenly "
noted too ; i try pretty hard to mix evenly in a separate container , and then put a top layer of substrate ; although the penetration of said top layer was not even ; don't know how more even it can get ? , any other reasons why it would do this ?
CO2 ish is like when you breathe from a just opened can of soda ,
thanks !

EDIT:
I actually have a question lol.
So I just made moves to a new house and in the process someone, quite possible myself I will admit, caused some minor damages to the fins on my HEPA filter. The damage is very minor, just some fins bent a tiny bit here and there and fortunately the majority of damaged fins are on the inside half of the filter. I know I'm an idiot and should have taken some precaution to protect my filter, but I we were hella rushed and I wasn't thinking. Anyways, my question is, how will this effect my laminar flow and at what degree would the damage to the fins become problematic? Should I bother attempting to repair the bent fins and if so, how should I go about it?

Can I sterilize the jars with a steamer pot?
I haven't seen anyone post about this method, maybe because not so many people own one?
But it should be similar to boiling in a pot. Since you mostly steam it.
I do have a pressure cooker but am a bit apprehensive in using it with glass jars inside and it seems to be a bit hard, what with finding a material to elevate the jars and what if all the water evaporates and so on.

pf-tek jars, yes you can steam sterilize. i would not recommend trying to steam sterilize grain jars.
read your owners manual for the pressure cooker. no reason to let unnecessary fears keep you from using the strongest tool in mycology.

What are major pinning triggers? How do you maintain high humidity levels? My substrate looks like it's dry in some areas and then almost has a pool of water on others. I'm not sure how to keep a balance at this point. Should I open the tub for more FAE to dry it out? If I do that, then humidity drops. Not sure what to do at this point. I spawned to bulk 10/19, and don't have a single pin yet. Any help is greatly appreciated. \
Also, is light a pinning trigger? I had my substrate in a room with the blinds closed. I didn't realize until today it was barely getting any light (sun stays on other side of the house). I switched rooms today, but wasn't sure if this could be a contributing factor.
Thanks so much!!

Pinning triggers Full colonization, or contamination, dry areas, wet areas, etc causing early "full colonization"
Evaporation of moisture off the surface causing a humid microclimate
Light helps but is what I would call a secondary trigger for cubes. Cubes will pin in the dark just fine.
How do you maintain high humidity levels? I don't worry about it. If the surface stays looking nice it's dialed in.
Post pictures.

Thanks for your response, bod. Here are some pictures:

It's pretty wet right now (oversaturated, tbh). Some areas look dry and some areas are pooling (the yellowish color is water stained by the oats I used). I'm not sure how to keep all areas "even" when it comes to misting. Any advice on this tub would be great.

Don't oversaturate next time and don't mist more until it needs it.

Thanks, bod. You think the tub will turn out okay or have I possibly done too much damage by over saturating?

Hey everyone, I was hoping you could answer a quick question for me. I got offered a deal on a large HEPA but I'm not totally sure if this one would work for a flowhood.
If I'm correct it will be this filter type: https://www.aafintl.com/en/commercial/browse-products/commercial/hepa-ulpa-filters/astrocel-ii "High-performance protection for critical environments. Provides savings on overall operating costs by using the lowest-resistance fiberglass laminar flow HEPA/ULPA media on the market. "
99,995% @MPPS(Remark: previously rated 99,999% @0,3um) Initial resistance: 125Pa Rated velocity: 0,45 meter/sec Class: H14 to EN1822
This filter is only 69mm (~2,7inch) thick, and the rated velocity is 88,6 feet per minute, which might be to slow, or is there enough safety room to get it up to 100-125fpm? It's a large filter I want to use for gourmet work, 2' by 4".
I'm getting mixed answers trough the search option, hope anyone could clarify if this filter is a good choice. Thanks in advance!

125pa is only 0.5"w.g. which is half the average resistance for a laminar flow filter. probably won't produce laminar flow at any speed.
Low resistance filters are for general air cleaning. Like hospital AC

What made cubes the preferred indoor shroom? Do they just have an affinity for room temperature, or was the cube the favorite of some pioneering mushroom grower?

What about Penis Envy? I know it's a mutation, but I don't understand what that means for a fungus. Wouldn't the mutation make the whole cultivar unstable? How can it have consistency and stability if it's a mutant?

The same way we get dogs like the bulldog that can't give birth without human assistance in most cases. Inbreeding and breeding techniques.

The basidium produces spores, but does not release them. Thats what it means. It doesn't mean the whole DNA strand is twisted and mangled to the point of being unrecognizable. Certain genetic mutations are hereditary. For instance, some kinds of dwarfism and some kinds of hypertension in humans are genetic. Not dropping spores is a hereditary trait of PE.
