Do mushrooms prefer metal halide, or high pressure sodium? Would a 12/12 light cycle be beneficial?

they prefer 6500k. id suggest using a bulb that doesn't generate a lot of heat. a 12/12 cycle is the recommended lighting schedule.

To case or not to case
Im torn on what to do with this shoebox. P.S. Brazil on oats to HP. I got 50/50+ pasteurized and ready to go. I want the biggest shrooms possible. What should I do.

to case or not depends on the surface conditions. can you achieve proper surface conditions without casing? if so, then the casing isn't necessary. casing layers are often helpful in drier climates or smaller subs that tend to dry out faster. noting that its also a shoebox, and from the looks of it, you used 1 quart spawn and 1 quart sub. if you can't mist that thing twice a day reliably, then casing would probably a good choice. I'd just throw some coir on top of it. I'm not personally fond of the complicated casing recipes with multiple ingredients.

Cool, I'll just leave it. First thing I do when I wake up is say good morning to the tubs and give it a spritz of mist. Last thing I do before bed is say goodnight and mist her again

I had a question about desiccants . Has anyone used ice melt sodium chloride? I have bags from last winter sitting around. And it's about half the price compared to other desiccants.w

I would buy a dehydrator and save the salt for the snow. Desiccants are a poor choice to dry mushrooms.

Sodium chloride isnt really a desiccant anyway. Calcium chloride is but its expensive.

How much condensation should there be on pasty plates? The small drops of water are starting to go on the agar itself--not much, but enough to draw attention. Should I start over and inoculate fresh plates? It's been roughly 5 days, and I haven't seen any growth.

Just a, id say do how your feeling. If your lazy and don't wanna make casing. Fruit it. If your energetic, make a casing. Personally I'm so lazy or tired these days I think I'm switching back to no casing. I did no casings for about 8-10 years and loved it. Didn't wanna do the extra work with making casings. With a top layer it can all be done with your sub. So its the same amount of work as making your bulk sub. These days I like whats easier. Which is do nothing and harvest! I dont even wanna Mist...

I just save some in the bucket and top. Seems the easiest option and is what's giving me good results. Course I'm strictly coir verm so I have that option. But then again not many subs are as easy to prep as coir verm. Lazy way or highway for me these days.

Actually, I noticed a little speck of white, and I got hard.
Is this normal?

its doesnt matter if they are wet or not. dont go wiping them dry. just ignore it. but dont mist the walls if thats what you are wondering. that does nothing.

What are absolute optimal temps for cubes for colonization of spawn and then fruiting? Pans? I’m looking for a number, or a very tiny range. I hear so much about these huge ranges. I get it, they can and will work with various conditions. But what is the absolute best I your guys opinions?

65-75 is just fine for cubes. 68-72 is my preference.

In nature many cubes grow in 75-90 plus temperatures. I grew up in Texas and in the summertime it would be 113 degrees some days. And shrooms were growing everywhere. Granted it would rain alot.

Outdoors they occupy their niche. Indoors they grow on sterilised and pasteurised goods. Which are a niche for a lot of contamination too.
So indoors generally people's recommend range is sub 80F. Just as a way to help mitigate unwanted molds having an easier time.
Though a huge range works. A lot of what ive done was in the mid 60s.
