Thank you. Yes I use HG no-pours 95% of the time and poured cell-treat petris 5% of the time. The no-pours are rock solid and I've never had a single one contam. They are stored for weeks or months without issue.
Wow, great point about bumping the SAB.... I often bump it with my hands/arms as I'm going in and out of it and realized a while ago this could be a factor so I'm trying to be more aware of that now - but I'm REALLY glad you mentioned the music..... I usually stream music from my computer which sits on the same desk as the SAB, but I have lately been turning it off to ensure no airflow from the computer fans is causing any issue, and in order to listen to music, I have a bluetooth portal speaker on the same desk that is playing. I'm not listening anything super bass heavy or at high volume but this could be a factor - and at this point, I'm looking for literally ANYTHING that I can do to eliminate the issues I'm having. So I will focus even harder on not touching/bumping the SAB and having my speaker on the other side of the room.

You have to use a video hosting site like youtube or vimeo.
I took a video of my SAB technique tonight intending to post it but after checking both Vimeo and Youtube, there is no easy way to do it anonymously. Vimeo requires you pay, and Youtube requires your phone number.
Oh well.

How much hydrated lime are you guys using in your casing? I've seen teks and posts suggesting everything from liming the water you hydrate the casing with at 6g per gallon of water, all the way up to 1tbs per quart of casing prior to adding water. Quite a difference there. I find if I PH test (using test strips) my casing that's hydrated with 6g per gallon, it seems to test out at ~7. To get it higher than that requires a LOT of lime and I am not too sure about accuracy of strips and the test anyway. Ever got the casing PH too high? What happens?

I have a shoebox with what was labeled at GTs. However, the growth is so abundant and thick, I can’t see the substrate thru the caps. They stems are kinda thin, there isn’t a lot of bruising, and they grew in large masses all connected. Question is…are they the real deal? They look nothing like my other batches. Thanks.

Why are plate pins desirable for cloning material? What seems likely to me, is because it is clean (grown in agar). Is a clone grown from plate pin any better in performance than a tissue culture taken from center of a mature mushroom?
I've got several Natalensis plate pin clones which I am excited about putting to grain.

Dont look at it as better or worse. Just look at it as an option. But a plate pin at least means you have a culture that will fruit.

Quick question please guys...
If I wanted to make a bunch of swabs, am I looking for swabs that are not cotton-tipped? Synthetic tips basically? Or is cotton also acceptable?
My fuzzy memory seemed to have me thinking cotton was no bueno for this so I wanted to check, rather than have a box of 100 individually wrapped and useless swabs
Hoping to make some giveaway things for the community over the coming months, it is time
Thanks

I feel like I am not romancing my substrate the right way immediately after the first harvest. Golden Teacher, normal monotub, thin top layer. It could be the spawn, but it feels clean and will sit there for a week or more, with no new forming buttons... and eventually, maybe 14 days post harvest, some old stump will rot out or trich or some random contam.
Is it imperative that I remove all aborts? That would be annoying if so.
And would I need to mist to the same level of watery beads as with my first flush? (I'm not fond of dunking and there is plenty of weight still)
Maybe my golden teacher is a one and done. I do get a respectable 4-5 ounces from 4 quarts spawn. I just seems to lose its vigor for life.

This thread has been pretty quiet lately but Im gona shoot my shot.
So Ive managed to produce a canopy or two but by no means consistently. Typically my tubs will look something like this.
How can I improve my pinsets moving forward? This tub colonized with the lid on, was never misted, flipped the lid when I saw pins.

With the thread revived I'd like to ask about rye BAGS, getting them perfectly hydrated with no wet spots or mushy grains.
Soo rye bags.
-Soak time? -Boil time? -Any other tips?
With the boil time, I have my presto 23qt loaded up about 3/4 way or more with grain, water almost to the top. Cold water to warm up with the grains on high heat.
I found with 45 mins the grains looked perfectly hydrated by eye, with no or few burst grains, but went mushy or had wet spots after the PC.
I'm thinking maybe the wet spots would dissipate after mixing the grains around like when shaking graij jars, but I haven't tried yet lol. Just running loads of experimental bags, haven't sealed or used any yet.

That looks pretty good, sometimes you just get a culture that doesn’t pin super heavy. Those pins look like they might need a TINY bit more air so maybe try that. It’s borderline though, could just be a culture that has longer pins.

First time PF Tek. Was waiting for full colonisation and noticed what appears to be pinning. Should I hold off or would it be better to birth, dunk and roll now (after cleaning off the uncolonised parts)?
The mycelium is still spreading. What do you think the reason is for the bottoms not to have colonised? Not enough solution or contams?
