bod mentioned this grow looked to wet. the fruits grew to decent size but they bent over.
i noticed the same thing with aa+ when i did another grow but with much smaller fruits.

i guess im wondering if this is genetic or conditions?

The mushrooms that are tipping over as they mature probably have a mutation commonly seen in true albino mushrooms.  IIRC mushrooms switch from a geotropic to phototropic response as spores mature and the cap starts to open.

yeah my thoughts as well. check out some of these albino grows

tape some quarters to your weight. it will increase pressure and decrease water loss. just keep an eye on your temps when you do.

Do you guys find that isolating towards monoculture, away from original ms, sometimes weakens potency? Looking to hear some tc experiences....

its def possible. part of the huge amount of work that is finding a monoculture entails doing many many test grows to find the right genetics.

I've always seen spore syringes made the following way: scrape spores into a shot glass, spray sterile water into it, and then aspirate/spray 3-5x before capping the syringe.

Assuming there's a reasonably clean print, including the foil casing, is there a much bigger risk for contamination if you simply dropped the foil into a jar of sterilized water for SHIP aspiration?

Obviously spores are inherently dirty and there's always risk in creating syringes from them, but with a properly cared for print, any reason not to try this? It just seems easier overall and can make more syringes. The only other issue I can think of is maybe the spores won't dislodge without scraping initially.

Follow up question: I doubt people making syringes for vendors are going 1 shot glass at a time. What's the common method for bulk syringe making?

well you really dont want to use an entire print for a single syringe, but also there is a thing as really small prints. depends on how you handled the foil, I'd say. I sterilize my foil and put those inside foil envelopes, so you could probably get away with it if your prints are similar. i wouldn't drop the foil in if its all one piece.

bulk syringes are very similar. replace the shot glass with a pf-tek sized mason jar full of water and pull 5 syringes in a SAB per jar of water. I can make probably around 25-30 syringes an hour.

I've never closed off my slants to GE. they are just wrapped in parafilm and put in an insulated lunchbox in my fridge. seems to have worked fine for my slants that I keep for ~a year or so.

yeah ive always found pasty plates in a ziploc bag in the fridge can keep for very long. just pour em a little deeper.

same with cube slants. i dont keep many. my slants are for a tamp clone and a bunch of edibles. the only cube one I have is muda's original Envy-SS culture.

2-3 hours at 15 psi will be fine. make sure you have enough water to run it that long - check your manual.

a good way to isolate cube myc from bacteria is the agar sandwich tek. no link needed, just make some agar plates, take a normal transfer, than open up a clean agar plate and either drop it on top of the other or cut out a piece thats big enough to cover the wedge you transferred. like the name implies, you want to the sandwich the transferred wedge between two pieces of agar.

this works because the cube myc grows filamentous strands through the agar, and can grow up and through it to the top. bacteria, however, cannot. it will only spread on the 2d surface and cannot penetrate the agar. so by growing through the agar, the cube myc can escape the bacteria.

thats a tough one. I've had some plates do the thing where the myc dips below the surface of the agar. but your surface level myc looks a bit different. you said those are spore inoculation sites? or are they transfers?

this was kss that i eventually cleaned up and fruited just fine

What does it mean if I am getting larger fruit growing from the very bottom of my cakes (like between the cake and foil) and smaller pinset at the top??? Is this a sign of low humidity?

Should I leave them be? Flip the cake on its side? Flip the cake 180*?

there is better surface conditions between the lid and the cake than elsewhere. the sizes are just different genetics. every cake is a unique snowflake when you grow from spores.

like i said. every cake from spores is a special snowflake. no two are alike.

it is not unusual to see growth on the bottom. its quite common actually. perhaps even more so when you use the wrong jars.

simply put, the mushrooms grew on the bottom because the conditions were right for mushrooms to grow.

naw the mushrooms like it there for a reason, leave them be. they will grow outwards from the bottom no problem.

Super stoked with what I got but if there was one thing I would change, I would want a more homogenous harvest with fewer popcorn shroomies with broken veils and rather more full size 10-20 gram fruits.

I would assume overall health of my mycelial base is key here along with having proper fruiting conditions i.e. good FAE, high humidity and lighting. But what, if anything, am I missing, what are the limiting factors to homogenous maturation (and overall fruit size) in your experience?

as you can see in the second photo I have a bunch of little popcorn shrooms and aborts that the cakes couldn't fully support

your cakes are way too dry. they should not be blue. dry cakes produce small fruits.

also not growing from multispore makes for a more uniform grow

I only shower when inoculating LCs. I'm super paranoid with those, and its a long time frame until you can test them.

The "clear" growth on the leading edge is a good sign that its healthy imo. It may not be pretty but that looks like mycelium to me stare

Munch & Bod,

Here's the same Ghostie plate after growing out a bit. After getting passed the divot made by my loop, it looks more clearly like cube myc to me now.

I also think how shitty my agar is within the plate is effecting growth a bit. I made these in my old SAB setup which wasn't level and I think I ran out of agar for this plate anyway.

MUNCH WHADDYA THINK??

Hey stare, this is a thread for questions. You know what myc looks like. Thanks.

Its looks healthy. Probably another 2 transfers or so before I would put it on grain.

sure ya im just giving him a hard time because he's literally been here just as long as i have. my apologies, you caught me at a bad time. i would have normally tried to be funnier about it.

to all: in the future, please try to be a little more detailed with the questions. status updates or posts looking for approval dont really cut the mustard.

edit: im an ass
