My Salvia pics

Here's my salvia I got around 4 weeks ago. I had a close encounter with it dying on me, when I tried getting rid of the pests by putting some Cayene pepper on it. The pepper completely ate it. And to top it off lol, I forgot to put my humidity bag over it so it began to dry hehe, I'm just glad it's healthy once again.

But those leaves have now fallen off, and new ones are growing as shown in these pics. I still have these moth/fly type things invading and eating it, even though it's in my room. So, I'm guessing they are laying nests in the soil and overspilt water.

And also, you will notice that the ends of the leaves are black (dead), I've read about this somewhere. Can someone enlighten me once again, as to how I can fix it?

thats a great pic. i had a bad experience with a salvia plant i had last year. when i was moving my mom left it outside with a bunch of other plants and it died. :frown: good luck... looks like you are doing a wonderful job!

Did you sprinkle the cayenne pepper onto the plant directly? The best way to do it is to soak it in water and use a solution of the pepper, nicotine, soap and watever else you like to mist off the buggers.


Btw.. nice pictures..


About the black parts, consisent relative humidity keeps the black away, but it's usually hard to keep the RH from fluctuating.

Clip off anything that's black as it's necrotic.

Neuro, yea I actually directly sprinkled it :/ which I also read soemwhere that it would be fine to do. I thought that was the easiest option at the time.
I've also read about what you recommended, and I will most likely try that out soon.

Basementshaman.com sells this stuff called Pro-Tekt, which is liquid silicon, i use it for every watering and rarely do I have leaf burn. I also have low humidty and it does well. Leaf burn is caused by over watering in my case, could be a factor of other things... hopefully this will help a little.

yea, cool. I would think that leaf burn would be caused by more than one issue.

I'm probably watering my plant twice a week..
what about you guys?

nice, soon you'll be able to make cuttings and make yourself a nice salvia garden :cool:

about the black leave tips: it could be low humidity but in the pics it doesn't look dry. it's nothing to worry about.
