Woodlovers just don't cease to surprise me. The season has been over with for a while now and we've had multiple nights of below 0C temps and this is when the Subsecotioides decide to show up Just before the frost takes over for a while, starting tonight.
At least we got these pics!

Very Cool Tweeq! Is that a Sub-species of Subaeruginosa? My google search came up with very little.Great work👍.

They’re not considered a separate species as they sequence so close to cyanescens, so basically yeah, a sub species, or variety of subaeruginosa. Very cool Tweeq!

Good for grain? I can use this to inoculate wbs as per usual, correct?

There are several ways to go about it, but that is what I did. Then sterilized woodchips, then outdoor beds.

to Land Trout & others:
i've been thinking it makes sense to not isolate on agar for outdoor patches. I've got 4 'strains' from spore germination on agar, and i've been doing 2-3 transfers on each , trying to not eliminate sectoring that may be occuring.
one of the plates just comes out round, growing vigorously and symmetrical without being transferred much. I Just now put that to grain. The other 3 strains are on their 3rd run on agar.
I was thinking of putting each strain to grain then testing out the patches, but it sounds like I should just mix the cultures. Should that be done sooner rather than later? Should I throw a wedge of all 4 strains in each grain jar, seems a little easier to mix grains later on. Or even bags of sawdust spawn. (is Grain spawn to sawdust spawn ok? or I could add alder shavings (from a planer) or possibly wood chips

I wouldn’t overthink it. Selecting sectors definitely Works. I’m really looking forward to the next couple seasons!

My cyans I went with MSS to try and get as much diversity as possible. Hopefully some will really take off and spread around naturally in my environment. But I used some special LC for ovoids, so whatever will work.

My personal opinion is that sectoring before ever fruiting is NOT the way to isolate genetics, no matter what genus or species. Spawn MS at first, then clone whatever fruits meet the standards you want to isolate for. For example, I clone fruits from the largest clusters hoping to get an isolate that produces more clusters. Yes, once that clone culture fruits and sporulates it will throw off a variety of genetics, but there are ways to mitigate that. I tend to strip my main allenii bed every 4-5 years and respawn with new clone culture, always selecting from the largest clusters. But I still have the original 10 year old MS culture on slant in the fridge. I'm pretty happy with the culture I've ended up with after 3 rounds of clone-isolation, the clusters just keep getting more consistent.

Think generationally. Indoor culturing is faster and more controlled, but outdoor culturing is a lot slower since it's on an annular cycle and subject to the elements. If you sector before fruiting, you'll have no idea if you eliminated the genetics that allow it to better naturalize to your specific microclimate.

So I broke my tub into two pcs and put in large plastic bags in cellar. Those just began to pin fat round balls
And I made another small lasagna tray of a jar that had some slime mold strings. I cased with cactus soil sprayed and put in baggie in a tub in WARM TEMPS. That one has a nice little pin now too. Sorry pic sucks but it's a healthy little one yay

I'm hoping to grow Azures and Cyans in pots. What type and size of wood should I be looking for? Should I pasteurize or sterilize?
I've found some aldar chunks, but they seem to be rather large (around an inch). Would I want to add cardboard or sawdust to fill in the gaps? I also saw some apple wood that seems to be smaller in size and cheaper.
Any advice is appreciated. .

Oh this pin in bad pic is popping at 67.1F and 82% RH . It's growing up fast I hope it remains healthy and gets some siblings to join
To last poster how are you starting off? Spores? Spawn? And most any wood will do just need azure to be well established and get cold to trigger fruits . It will test your patience but worth it
