I know next to nothing about crossing, let alone crossing different species but a friend sent me this thread about using snake venom the other day. This may interest you as well

Uh so guys i just smeared a few hundred spore prints of cyans ovoid serbica azure and sub on a huge cardboard and covered with pasteurized nut shells and slightly rotten chips and made a nest of japanese stiltgrass and cover with another flat piece of cardboard for now to humidify outside on the ground. Does anyone have any tips for helping the success rate? Maybe a splash of wood tea? Or just leave alone?

Pray.
It's up to nature now.

Still putting out even after I refreshed the bed! Biggest ones so far!

I had so many shrooms that a few weeks agao I decided to do the refresh on the old bed and properly seed the new one. I moved the mulch out of the way in some spots and added even more sticks and branches, then topped with a heaping shovel full of mycelium from the old bed. Recovered with the mulch after.

The old bed I mixed in more wood chips and big fist sized chunks and topped with new mulch.

Moves some chunks of ovoid mycelium and inside about two weeks ago. Primordia started to show around a week. Starting to flush well now.

Some weird ass Gymnopilus luteofolius from wild print. When I grew these the first time I made two spawn jars. One I spawned about 1:1 with some cherry sawdust and chips. The other sat in the fridge for months. I recently spawned that to hwfp at maybe 5:1 hwfp:spawn.(by wet volume)
I can't remember if the pins were like this or not. I think sort of but not as extreme. Using alot more fae this time too.

Any of that looks good. Im sure a lot of those strains inside the streak would have that vigorous expression also if they didn’t meet a boundary. I wouldn’t hesitate to send that whole plate to grain from the looks of it, I am really liking my patches made from germ plates, however isolating doesn’t hurt too much either. I also started taking multiple transfers from germ plates and stacking them together. Takes a little bit to overcome that desire to transfer for isolation though.

Has anyone tried to grow PNW woodlovers in climate zone 4a (Edmonton, AB) outdoors using pots? I'm thinking of trying it with milk crates and moving them inside before it gets too cold.

Whats the thoughts on using different plates, started with same print, few transfers. Then using plates to make grain spawn, then mixing the spawn when adding to the wood chips? Thank you

Lost one of the two test jars to a competitor. The chips were sterilized so it's something floating around the woods and house. I took the lid off of this one, covered it with saran wrap and put the ring back on. Added a few pin holes for air and I'm keeping a filter on it while it sits. It's nice being able to have a top view now though.

Im just starting to do this more. I’ve got one subaruginosa patch that was mostly from culturing it out by making transfers to narrow it down but did spawn part of it using the germ plate and it seems like it’s more diverse and really bad ass. So that patch inspired me to blend them up as much as possible. My thought process is that I’ll have diverse expression To choose clones and prints from, and maybe the diversity will be give the patch more ability to adjust to changes, but that’s just me pulling things out of my ass. Kind of a fun place to be where I can just play around and see what happens. makarorae is throwing out a good bunch of pins! Pics from several days ago.
