You still need grain spawn….then put that to wood chips outside… and that’s your “bed”
It takes a while to get a patch going, at least a year and that’s if your lucky… Where are you? Like what climate(I don’t need ur address lol)

NYC. Planning on spawning to soaked and sterilized alder woodchips outdoor once I get some clean spawn. All Ive got so far is a germ plate and transfers to plates that havent grown onto the plate yet, even after 4 days. Id normally expect a quarter sized colony by 1 week. Doesnt seem like ill reach that milestone.

Hi Jake,
No, unfortunately. Good that you mention it. I had so much stuff going on last year that I kinda forgot about the one from Indianapolis. The one from India, I got to fruit though. So confusing.. Lol
What fruiting temp range did the India one pop off?

Make you a liquid culture once you got some good growth! Cyans are my favorites!
Liquid inoculant is far easier and less contam prone in my opinion. What i do.; Colonized plate into 3/4 jar sterilized water, shake, pour into 6 or 7 grain jars, shake grain jars. So many inoculation points. Can make the agar a little softer so it breaks up easier when shaking in the water.

I have spawned heavy in may/june and had it fruit that fall. I've made patches identical to that and it took two years
The best time to spawn is always as soon as you can. Personally I'd wait for the thaw date if I was in NY, you want them to make the leap before freezing if possible. I dunno, I live in western Oregon and it's almost always above freezing here, I just picture NY as frozen in the winter.

This was in the summer but it was quite cold and very wet for the time of year. Daytime temps 20C/68F & nights around 14C/57F.

I'm so happy the nice one has spores dropping I made two butt clones in mini jars from it

This mutant was tough and even made spores drop

I'm glad the nice one matured healthy with that susquehanna look 👌 it will be expanded to chips and hope to show more soon.
I misted tub and put in warmer area with more airflow hope to get more to flush

Start things off with a random question. How dead do my sticks need to be? I am going to hand cut a bunch of live Filbert. Should my sticks dry out? then rehydrate? when should I inoculate?

Just went back and found your print give away. Of course I missed out on it, it was done 6 hours after you posted it!
Can I take a moment to say how freakin' awesome it is that the great and honorable Workman came out of hiding to grab your first print? Holy shit! I hope he posts his experiments with it...

Nice, I noticed how much doubt you were getting about these but those are def not cubes. Very cool you got these to fruit indoors.

Just an update on my ps.cyanescens mycelium expansion. I had different approaches at the start of this fall, including woodlover smoothie, lc and cardboard. I don't want to claim that these methods don't work, but here is the one which worked out best for me. Don't want to reinvent the wheel, just showing my progress:
Cloned wild fruit to agar first then cleanup until ready to send
to straight grain, colonized slowly but worked:

to old sterilized woodchips collected from outside near existing patch, the myc literally jumped on it, these jars are ten days old:

got some fresh woodchips in the fermentation process, still want to compare if fermented can keep up with the outside ones.

I would recommend the outside chips to everyone who struggles with getting a project running. I even have two wood jars inoculated with half agar plates each and the myc leaps off to the old wood (This experiment is still running and might be the slower route, too early to draw conclusions)

Just fresh ones suck for me and i'll not go that route. I'll try to expand the myc as much as possible until spring and make some small guerilla patches around town. There are a lot of nice places i saw already i'm excited

Were you able to take spore prints from these?

Hey Gogo! How old ( if you had to guess) are the chips you used? I may have to try some partially decomposed chips as well to get a side by side comparison.👍 To be honest so far I haven’t had a problem getting “ fresher” chips to colonize. However if it could be faster……

I made tissue cultures from the pretty one and will take prints asap as I've just got no need for it and really awaited these to mature without having sterile gills

They look quite potent blue!!!! Yay 😇

Hi, sorry tbh i can not tell how old they are exactly. I don't live here long enough to say how often these park beds get worked over. But since they are quite black, colonized by other mushrooms and well mixed with other debris like twigs and leaves i would guess they are pretty old. I came to the idea because i created a very small patch in the summer in these exact chips and it's already fruiting.

Well the elbow off the mutant fruit was growing on the dry fruits day after being cut off I cut the nice super dense elbow off and made a mutant labeled mini culture expansion
It is such a aggressive Ugo that still dropped spores so I'll play with it labeled n see wat that line does
