as said before this is spawn to coir and I have topped it off with potting soil twice now. Its time for a casing.
Got 4 tubs to play with and one substrate buried in the backyard.
So what do you guys think would be good for a casing? Planning on doing one with more potting mix (maybe add some sand to it) and one with fermented pine chips which leaves two more slots open for suggestions.
Also would you give them a soak before casing?
These are indoor tubs, Baba?
Ever stumble upon Zenn's indoor Ps Cyan log? https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26535887/fpart/1/vc/1
I'm no expert but I'd try a pan-type inedible casing and a seeded grass casing to try to slow down the buffet.
Good luck!
Thanks, that is a great thread.
I keep the tubs outdoors for fruiting, temps are good atm. Topped everything up with more mulch/woody potting soil. In nature they grow right out of straight woody debris so my guess is that micro climate it the most important factor. If it's cold enough and lots of FAE / evaporation is happening on the surface then they should pop some fruits I think. Spawned this 2 month ago, hoping they have processed the substrate enough to switch into fruiting mode.

More on my attempting to grow Weraroa indoors: I've PC'd some wood chips mixed with some misc plant matter and soil from a garden bed outside, so far the subsecotiodes mycelium seems to be doing pretty well on it. I spawned it from WBS about 3 days ago. Hopefully it keeps doing well, otherwise I'll just have to keep experimenting more . I've been procrastinating on isolating the full-pouch weraroa mycelium on agar from the nasty wild swab I got, but I'm preparing more plates for that today so hopefully I'll have some soon.

Looking forward to your progress bud. Subsec looking good. Definitely would recommend a brf puck or snagging myc from a cake if you can't get anything clean on agar. I would imagine true weraroa swabs can be real nests of bacteria. Still jealous AF though lol. I'd spend a tremendous amount of effort trying germ them.

Looking for some advice guys:
Whats the best way to feed or expand established cyanescens patches? They are pretty small probably 1x1m, fruited last year.
Do I just pile wood chip on top? Or break up the bed a little and mix wood chip in? how much do I feed with?
Thanks!

This thread helps if you're not sure how to supplement an outdoor wood grow.

Yeah I've been meaning to try a brf puck too but... still, procrastinating lmao. To try to combat contams, I diluted a bit of swab in a PCd jar of water and gave it a good mix, and used that to inoculate my plates. I made 8 so hopefully at least one goes well. I do worry it'll be a pain to distinguish tomentose weraroa mycelium from potential contams on a brf cake. If the subseco mycelium I've gotten so far is anything to go by, weraroa mycelium starts off pretty wispy and almost cobweb-looking.

Once a beds established just add chips, you could also take sections from the patch in the fall and expand it in containers where you have more control.

Make a much larger bed and use the existing one as spawn, I'd wait until after you harvest this years crop tho, you can also just collect the spores and spray them on the new bed

Agreed. I did that, and the patch is already taking off and taking over all the other mulch around it. I tripled the size of the patch, but I had enough seed chips.

Thanks for the replies. Just lay chips on the top or should I mix them in?

So for my outdoor bed, it's located maybe an 8 minute drive from it's original habitat. p. cyans and p. alleni (my patch is alleni) grow less then a mile from the new patch location, so I know the climate is fine.
My question is, if we don't have a period of much natural rain, how often should I water the patch? Thanks!

Some would say azzies, I’ve had better experience with cyans, But ovoids have been the most productive for me. I haven’t tried serbica, and failed at a gym but that was from lack of enthusiasm at the time. Are we talking about outdoor patches?

Is there any indoor tek available out there? I don't mean strictly strictly indoor, I have a balcony with a couple pots that I could use, if that's useful... I have some azzies on oats right now but can't decide wether to try luck or to just slant it for the future
