Hahaha wow those look gigantic! Hope it takes off. I have my first Azzies on agar right now from a spore print. Can't wait to get them spawning. Hope I'm not too late to get them outdoors. Already in the mid 70's here.

Hopefully my Ovoideocystidiata will fruit again this spring! The mycelium is looking good!

It went from cold and wet to really dry here, I’m not sure I’ll even get and ovoid off my beds this spring.

I introduced 1 qt of spawn comprised of papercrate, rye, and sawdust 5 days ago. When this is colonized I'll add more until it's full, then once it's done I'll use this box as spawn for a full size tub that will go on my porch. That tub will get a good soil casing layer with grass and moss planted in it for a nice living micro-climate.
What is the obsession with growing woodlovers in plastic Tubs? Grow them in beds like god intended the yeilds are astronomically different

The benefit is that they more isolated from worms, moles, and other criters in tubs and pots, and you may get fruits more surely than a bed, of course big beds are more powerfull when succseed. Also many people likes to make spawn materials in tubs them make beds from it.

The first time I started growing woodloves I started with beds only...Big mistake wild animals, flooding and bad weather got everything destroyed! I don't do beds now, even in my garden the bugs and snails, slugs and worms eat the colonized chips!

Maybe it's for people that don't have access to ground space? Or maybe I should I just dig up the ground next to my parking lot in front of my 16 neighbors. Think.

Land Trout I see you leave your blocks whole. Everything I've been reading says to break them up in layers with soaked chips. Also it's been suggested to use a shady spot and only water in the fall.
I drilled and filled 500 Lion's Mane spawn plugs in freshly felled Maple logs last December, kept them in my basement and sprayed with water a couple times per week. Just got them moved outside a few days ago.
I also inoculated two BRF jars with azurescens MS on 1/31. They're about 60% colonized right now. One jar I'm going to break up and add to pasteurized oak/hickory pellets in a bag and the other keep in a tub with soaked chips. When the pellets are fully colonized then transfer to a 5 gallon bucket of soaked chips, then multiply. I prepared four outdoor beds about 4" deep with fresh oak/ash mix. I have access to unlimited chips. Zone 4.
Still have a lot of azzie LC to play with, hoping to start learning agar soon. Might just try a couple more BRF jars with the LC.
Also I tried UB tek and mixed it into rabbit's poo, they took off like wildfire. Will keep you posted.

I think it was way lit Jim where I read to keep the blocks whole, and their grows impressed me, so that’s how I’m doing most beds. Maybe I’m doing it all wrong.

I'm actually starting to think it's the best way for some species. I noticed an enormous difference, for example, with my two experiences introducing quebecensis myc into my outdoor area. Ferather (where'd he go anyway?) had some coherent ideas relating to the concept as well. I'm too tired to look it up, but it seemed fairly sensible. Totally agree that WaylitJim is worth emulating given his track record.

My university has some big flower pots with small shrubs planted in them that are mulched with wood chips and regularly watered. Every time I walk by them I think about burying some woodlover mycelium in there some day. However I think that at least one of the thousands of people that walk by them daily will recognize those mushrooms. Could be an act of charity, spread the love to all of those students hahaha

I can't believe how much the subs are loving the pasteurized woody potting soil.

as said before this is spawn to coir and I have topped it off with potting soil twice now. Its time for a casing.
Got 4 tubs to play with and one substrate buried in the backyard.
So what do you guys think would be good for a casing? Planning on doing one with more potting mix (maybe add some sand to it) and one with fermented pine chips which leaves two more slots open for suggestions.
Also would you give them a soak before casing?

Planted several kilos of Azzy mycelia today. Inoculated a couple GIANT tree stumps. Also inoculated one with Ovoids. The hopes are high. The only thing that bothers me is that the GPS completely crapped out so I don't have the exact locations so I'll have to search around a bit.

In the past I have photographed certain weird trees around the area, that'll be enough to jog my memory. Big trees like tulip poplars or ones that have funny branching. HTH

Did you drill and plug the stumps? Or just spread around them?

No that wouldn't work. I buried it near the stumps, covered with soil.

I have light but solid ivy growing over my patch, will get a picture up. Patch is spawned from already fully formed p. alleni chips from a wild patch I found and slowly responsibly harvested the chips. Will that protect pins well? I also have wild strawberry plants already growing, should I transplant some to the patch and lay some seeds down throughout the patch so they start growing little plants by next fall?
