Beautiful azurescens🤓! Checked on my azzie jar today and it seems to be doing really well. There are some white dots near the top that seem a bit concerning but I’ve been watching them this week and I think they may just be small bits of mycelium left from shaking. No more shaking just gonna wait now🤙
And here is a picture of some of the salvaged popcorn kernels from the contamed jar. Thank God I was able to salvage a bit and not waste all of the lc which saturated the kernels.

You may be very well correct sir. I just looked again and saw some trich as well, fuck. Aren’t azures known to beat out such competitors or is that only once it’s on wood?

Right on, would you suggest leaving it to colonize a bit longer before trying to salvage the healthy myc? Or just do that now before any more contams spread and fuck up the whole jar.? Thanks for the replies. Guess I should be surprised that half ass ghetto sterilization tek worked at all. -_-

Looks like you might have plenty to work with at the bottom-- I'd trash the junky top half and use the myceliated grain like you did with the other stuff on papercrate or cardboard to keep it going in a less infection-prone environment -- but that's just what I would do-- maybe another would advise differently

Yea that's yeast. Azzies can beat Penicilium on grain, but not much else. On wood they're safe tho. I'd maybe bury the contamed jars under some logs/stumps. Nothing to lose, right?

do azurescens go here? My friend has had this ufo container on his porch since july last year. He started giving it some water when it gets light. Do you think it will fruit? it was just coir and spawn before he realized they need wood then he threw pasteurized wood chips on top and it slowly started crawling up
he started several regular patches in October too, he expects them to fruit next month or so, but they are his first patches and he's no expert obv.

Thanks for the tips guys.🙏 Ended up moving some of the colonized kernels layered into an egg carton with alder chips. And then leaving some of the remaining healthy myc in the jar I just filled the top half with wood chips. Would you suggest shaking this jar or wait to see if growth starts to creep up onto the chips first?

Tuts, looks like good growth, it’s possible it could fruit in that container, like cubes they have to reach kind of an end to their meal before fruiting, in a way. As far as the patches fruiting in a month from now, that’s unlikely, unless he’s in the Southern Hemisphere, they are fall fruiters by nature. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20957157 Here’s is a great journal for wood lovers in containers.

Looking for advice on a large outdoor ovoid patch. I started it in June 2019 and I hoping for first fruits this spring. There is local SE ohio genetics and print from mushrooms.com that has kind of grown merged together. The local genetics is from about 80 miles away and they generally start to fruit right around May 1st in SE ohio.
Last year I did not get any fruits from this patch and it may have been lack of casing layer or ground cover. This year I am thinking about casing the wood chips with peat/coir/verm mix and then planting grass and wild strawberries in the casing mix.
Would you case this patch? Plant stuff? And/or leave it alone with the just the leaves covering it? The white pellets are sluggo. It has been covered by snow for weeks. Got up to 60 yesterday so took a peak under leaves and the slugs where already out in force. The chicken wire is to keep squirrels from digging and that entire area is fully colonized at least a few inches deep.

I'd always recommend to case and plant stuff. Forest strawberries for the win!

Strawberries will help the pins stay protected so they can form real big clusters. Chill on feeding it till this fall after you have harvested a few times

I'm only here to find out if these things exist in South Georgia/North Florida. Sorry if I didn't read the whole thread. Many of the photos on page 1 have been deleted?

With protection from sun and wind, and proper hydration, most of the woodlovers could be made to grow outdoors nearly nationwide-- their season may shift to fit your weather patterns, but so long as you get cool wet autumns I don't see any reason these wouldn't grow well everywhere but desert/dry regions of the continent

Some species are more finicky than others. Usually the ones with a very small natural range to begin with like azurescens or weilii. Others grow over vast areas like ps ovoid or cyanescens these would both do well almost anywhere except a desert or artic climate

Thanks. I was riding through the woods yesterday and it has been raining like crazy here. Shrooms growing on logs in abundance. Made me think.... that would make some good microscopy material! ;-)
