Thanks, first attempt at woodlovers. I have allenii and azurescens beds as well but made these only a month ago. Not expecting anything there.
Western Europe, temps have dropped to 5-9°C in the morning and climbing to 18°C afternoon.

I have a question, I have some cyans and ovoids and am surprised at how much faster the ovoids colonize at least the wood chips, with grain it was even. Anyone else have that experience?
What about subs and alenii etc, is there anything even faster than ovoids ?

From my understanding, ovoids very agresive. Thats why some feel that they could push out the cyans(PNW) by colonizing all the real estate. Lots of people spawn ovoids, wanting that 2nd fruiting during the year. I think the long run/big picture needs looked at. I personaly want cyans in the fall.

If I would have two adjacent but separate beds, ovoid and cyan. would you say that an established bed of cyanescens could be taken over by Ovoids? What if the beds were not next to eachother?

I don't think it would. But I think if a new pile of woodchips appeared, the Ovoids would most likely take over.

When I was new to mushrooms I had a mono that wouldn't fruit, I couldn't figure out why until a few weeks passed I caught my mistake. One of the 3 pint jars used to spawn the tub was ovoid not cubensis. The voids out competed the cubensis on coir and colonized the entire substrate. I dumped the tub in some woodchips outside and got a nice flush of voids a few months later. I think it's fair to say they are the most aggressive species I've worked with.

Has anyone ever used these oak pellets as a substrate for going from grain to wood with cyans? I’m thinking of mixing some with alder chips this winter with my cyan grain spawn.

Hardwood fuel pellets are much cheaper than this. These will obviously work but HWFP are exactly the same, come in heavier bags, and are cheaper. I get HWFP from Canadian Tire and they're 6$ for a 25 lb bag.

Great, thanks for the suggestion. I can grab hardwood stove pellets where I am too pretty readily. That’s a significant cost saving. Do you soak your pellets to turn them into saw dust for use as substrate? Thanks

I soak them in boiling water to expand into sawdust. Add spawn, colonize, then add to a woodchip bed outdoors. Adding loads of grain spawn to outdoor beds attracts animals. This will as well, but to a much lesser degree.

Works excellent for outdoor gourmet beds as well

Aces, just what I was looking for thanks for the link. I’m thinking I may make the sawdust from the pellets and then mix it with various sized fermented alder chips and grain spawn that I’ll let colonize over the winter. I did this last winter minus the sawdust and had success for seeding an outdoor patch. I’m curious if the sawdust will help with colonization when introduced at this stage. Thanks again for your help.

Allenii pots/Tubs. This year is awesome. Last year's fruits took long ass time to mature, this year much, much faster. Great season. I'm ready for next year, made lot of spawn. Can't stop looking at them.

If you are serious about cult woodlovers you need a good woodchiper or at least a chain saw, dont waste money buying substrate unless you live In a desert or something lol usually any climate suitable for woodlovers is also going to have an abundance of wood, most of which you should be able to get for free
Those caps are so orange almost looks like one of the deadly galerina species, I'm sure they are tasty none the less
