Wow. I had 0.5g Azzies the other day and it was surprisingly mild. Maybe because I ate half a kilo of meat less than an hour beforehand, lol.

Hey guys.  Just finished soaking some cherry and pecan wood chips and was considering using the water for an agar.  Would this work or too much tannin?

I am in Zone 9 on the Gulf Coast basically. Temps are all over the place right now. Running the heater full blast
two days ago. Now I have the A/C on.

When should I start growing out and when should I put everything into the ground?

I did Azzies here once. Got like 4 fruits and it took a year

Put everything in the ground in the spring when it warms up

Thanks cron! Will do.

Here's something that I thought was really cool. I discovered this dense growth of some mushrooms out in the yard:

I dont know exactly what kind of mushrooms they are but I suspect that they are woodlovers. There was some old rotting wood in the area.
What I thought interesting was we had a snowfall before these guys decided to fruit. I live in a almost desert climate- so its always nice for me to see something like this.
Drats- I wish I  had taken a print.

:whathesaid: coprinellus micaceus. Cool find:awesomenod:. They're not fussy regarding temps. If you water the patch you should see more fruits.

COOL!- thanks guys-
I dont know much about identifying these guys. If they ever come back i'll take a print, then I can try different substrate recipes & just put them right back in that same spot- seems like there's a nice microclimate there.

Just checked that name on Wikipedia- Spot on, the picture looks exactly like what I found.

Happiness is a second flush starting from the bed, and its supposed to rain heavily.  The last pic is some mycelium that grew under a pot in the last three weeks, after I place the pot to protect the first flush from the dog. Slugs are getting some of them, you can see in the upper right.  Cultivated alder chip bed. Ps. cyanescens.

If you wanna do something like that better just use the T-gel tek instead, based on black tea which contains phenols woodlovers like. My experiences with wood tea aren't that great, it can be a little tricky to get to the right concentration of solubles anyway.
One possibility though why my experiences weren't that good is because it may have gotten really acidic that way (from the tannins among other compounds), so if you do it  check the pH and neutralize with CaCO3 if necessary.

OTOH tea gel works just fine (and is nicely selective / antibacterial anyway). T-gel (and esp not wood tea) may not necessarily be the ideal medium for your "final" non-transfer-y plates cause the nutrition isn't quite on the same level of say malt, I think. So use T-gel for intermediate steps and cleaning up ideally. At least that is what i do.

Already have cleaned up Caerulescens plates currently on GSA.  OTOH is new to me, what does that stand for?

Indeed, I can explain some science. Wood by default will have a nitrogen content of around 0.1%, whereas black tea around 2%.
In addition, as mentioned by Solipsis (who seems to be experienced with T-Gel) both the tea and wood are acidic.

Wood agar does work, but it's usually very tomentose and slow. Tea is better, but fairly tomentose.
The addition of 0.04g MG (see here) to 200g of T-Gel, improves speed and growth.

Malt extract is still fairly high in carbon, but contains enough nutrients.
Try my current recipe with additional malt extract (0.5-2g).

----

Additional notes:

Most of the macro-micro nutrients in tea, remain locked into the cellulose (leaf).
The soluble phenol content in black tea is higher than most wood types.

----

Agar notes:

To set properly the agar must be added to water first, then add the tea-other.

Sorry for the crap pics, I forget my camera at my girlfriend again

Ovoids are nice as allways,I tuned a bit of the FAE

And the strawbags started to pin, but cleary visible that they don't feeling good on it. The top of the straw is drying fast and they pinning on the sides. So some strawbags are cased with CVG so not as simple as oysters but can be as simple as SRA

Peace
M

Well, I find it pretty logical that the good cam is at your girlfriends house. I wouldn't take pictures of my girlfriend with a crappy camera 😂

Pics are still great
