Interesting.. Making wood chips resistant to molds with an extended soak. Coincidentally I have soaked some wood chips for around 5 days, albeit unintentionally. I did bring them to a boil again though and let them cool down overnight. I bought some heavy duty perforated PVC bins. In one of those I have placed two layers of colonized wood chips (Ps. cyanescens) in egg cartons. in between those layers and at the top I added the fresh wood chips. I'm keeping the bin indoors for the time being, in a transparent bag that's not completely closed.

Here is a question for you guys.
Does ovoid mycelium make rice grey as it eats it?
Take a look at this jar......

Ill put it in photo of the day too.
I will try to get some better photos.
Some of those guys never come over here for some reason.

It's really hard to see the flash is over the mycelium.

Disd you clean up the spores at all or just put it straight into a syringe? I have used contaminated grain for Azurescens and I imagine you could for voids too. But I don't actually see any mycelium in there yet. When did you inoculate?

Went straight to the syringe.
Strange how there is no contamination other than... the contamination.
I will let it go for a while see what happens.
Need to make agar today. Last batch had problems.

They'll have a go at whole pepper pods too, it's quite a site to see a squirrel get the hot pepper burn and blast off. :prance:  Habanero flakes work even better because the smell is stronger and there's a lot more capsaicin that it takes more rain to wash it away.

And slugs don't like copper, if you use beer within the area to kill whats there and use a copper border they won't be a problem... tougher to do when it's not a raised bed or pot though.. I hate slugs, they love my chillies.

Copper can kill fungi,be carreful...

Looks like rhizomorphic snowflakes

does anyone have any tips on fruiting p subs in the uk? Im guessing south east australia and new zealand basically have the same weather but uk weather is stupid and unpredictable (Its the middle of summer, 28c degrees right now and yet its chucking it down with rain??)

Agar...

Let's hope these ovoids take.
And my agar doesn't turn out like last time...
Went back to the only method that works for me so far.
Plastic wrap around the dish.

I've started some LC's with P.Subaeruginosa
This is half strength molasses LC.

colonized agar wedges were placed in LC and agitated in a high speed commercial blender (48,000 rpm) until LC was warm to the touch so as not to overheat.

48 hours later...

Jar on the left was not blended. You can see the lc is clear and wedge is just starting to fuzz and spread. On the the other side the blended jars are already filled with growth.

and a couple grain masters I've started from wedge.
72 hours in.

Way super cool! I hope to move to lc soon.
Got lucky and the base for a cheap blender fits perfectly on a half pint jar.

So, you blend an agar wedge?

edit-
On the way to bed, i spotted this.
That jar with the black rice in it... Shook it.
Now it is a fuzzy white clump with fuzzy white stuff everywhere....
Im laughing...

Get close and im like wut?!?!
...Sheeeor looks like mycelium to me.
P. Ovoid is what Snakeye sent me...

That's great! Is it the right type plastic? I know some people have found the base can warp after pressure cooking. Yes a colonized wedge is added to the lc and then blended.

Has been in the cooker before. Couple times. Never seem to get the combination right and never works out.
Had a clean agar puck once and was excited to toss it in the jar with bout 40 cc of water and blend it and poured it on three quarts of oats that were not done right...
I think.
I may have tossed things that were not bad because I have never seen it before. duhhh...
The ovoid jar looks... wow.

I'm new to LC. The plan is to let the LC finish up, blend again and then inoculate both sterilized woodchips and grain jars. At this rate it may be done in 2 days. I'll probably use a high ratio of LC per jar as this project is about speed. Did you prepare your grains on the dry side when adding the blended agar? I will test moisture uptake of my grains and woodchips first so I can work out how much dry substrate to add to my jars to offset LC. Hopefully it turns out to be clean.

Your ovoid mycelium is looking healthy:cool:
are you going to attempt to fruit them indoors or start an outdoor bed?

I allways use LC, I use 5 ml / half quart jars, woodlover mycelium is strong against bacteria and moulds, so I do not shake the jars after inocculation, just after I see 0.5 cm growth. then shake well and let them finish. At 24 C° they  will finish up in 2-3 weeks.

Thanks Moricz and that is good to know. The temps are right so hopefully I see them finish up in that time frame and get to the fun part.

Personally I'm not big on LC, but to answer your question, yes, I believe people prep grains on the drier side to offset added liquid.

Blending LC? Interesting.

OOOps..
That jar is a lost jar that I had somehow misplaced and it showed back up.
The jar with the myc in it is GT.
The ovoid jar still looks interesting, but still not right.
I will keep trying.
