honey water: carmelized? (pic)
    #2467031 - 03/24/04 11:46 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I just PCed some honey water - 1 tbsp raw, unprocessed Amish honey in a pint jar. When it came out... it's not brown, but it's definetly darker than when it went in. Was a pale yellow, now an amber beer color. I have no idea what carmelizaion looks like, so here's a pic:

That pic, for some reason makes it look a little darker than it really is, but not a hell of a lot darker.

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

if yr jar has a metal lid
the microwave might not be such a good idea

I haven't got any plastic lids, so the microwave would be a bad idea. The original tek I read said PC for 30 mins, so that's what I did. The honey itself is much darker/murkier than regular store-bought honey, and so rich it'll give you cavities at thirty paces. I was concerned because I don't know what carmelized honey water looks like, and the jar's color is noticeably darker than it was before it went into the cooker.

Next time I have to build in some ventilation - when I went to inoculate I peeled back the masking tape and the fucker sucked in a bunch of air. I'd been lysoling the area pretty thoroughly and holding my breath, so I hope that'll be okay.

hmm make sure you are putting the lids on w/ the rubber seals up, you don't want to can...
cujo uses polyfill in his innoc holes, seems to work pretty well
also he usually only pc's for 10 or 15 min and it works out.

Yeah 30 min sounds a little long to me...I'd try 20 next time, but the stock you have there should still be good.

my dog uses conventional mason jars with metal lids

his process goes like so:
traditional karo:water ratio
put in microwave with saran wrap over the top, kinda pressed down, but of course it doesnt actually stick, just a dust cover if you will.

anyway, microwave the jar, with saran wrap on top until it boils for 35 seconds
after that, turn off the microwave, wait a while (hour, 30 min, whatever)
open up the microwave and slap jar lid, seal down (with predrilled innoc holes) on top of saran wrap. seems to work for me, no sterility problems. saran wrap acts as a true seal to help keep out contams of the drilled innoc spots. that is until you need to draw a syringe, in which case my dog puts a dap of silocone caulking over the innoc hole after use. this isnt the best way, as everyone will have a better way or could nit-pick my process, but it works, you dont need to pc, yuo dont need plastic lids....
