Everything Elon Musk has set out to do he has done not always on schedule but done nonetheless. I wouldn't rule out a Mars mission within 20 years.

All that Elon Musk has ever really set out to do is get gummint money to prop up mismanaged businesses. That and kill initiatives to establish a useful public transit infrastructure in order to sell more cars. And I guess that he did take over a small town in Texas and basically make it a criminal offense for any of the residents to disobey his own corporate security. He did make it a popular party place for his rich prick friends though...

No your woefully misinformed Musk took advantage of loans that was given to many companies by the way the loans have been repaid with interest. Elon Musk does more for the planet in a single day than you have ever done in your entire miserable life.

Which is to say that he's fighting against his own employees over the fact that free frozen yogurt isn't enough to mollify their concerns over unsafe working conditions. And that the worth of his companies is an estimate based on an extremely contrived metric, since neither of his companies has really managed to turn any sort of a profit.
But hey, SpaceX has a ludicrously inefficient launch vehicle that took a bad design and added a whole bunch of points of failure. Wasted a shitload of taxpayer money on it too. Now that's innovative.

Oh your an aerospace expert wow I'm so impressed. You have no idea at all what your talking about. Most tech companies are overvalued at the start and lose money it takes time reach profitability look at Amazon similar story to Tesla. Of course you probably can barely run a cash register let alone a multi billion dollar business. Haters like you are a dime a dozen.

I'm still a bit skeptical of some of the things Elon Musk says he is going to do.
But I will say that I was pretty impressed with how they have landed some of those rockets on barges in the middle of the ocean.
I hope he does build these tunnels and get some people to Mars, though. That would be pretty awesome.

You can't ever back up anything you have to say, just like in my Astrophysics for People in a Hurry thread. All you did was bad mouth Neil DeGrasse Tyson and claim he was absolutely wrong about the section on Omega I typed out but wouldn't provide anything beyond that to back your claim.

Pop science? That's not even a term. It's astrophysics not Katy Perry. I guarantee you haven't had a career in astrophysics for 20+ years, a renowned Expert In Anything little alone Astrophysics. Also that particular book is filled with facts not opinions.
But You're right you didnt give a shit about the topic. You Just wanted to act like you are smarter then Anyone and everyone to stroke your ego.

It's more like trivia than astrophysics. You know how people praise people like Tyson for teaching science without "all of the boring stuff?" That boring stuff is the actual science. It's not a matter of pride so much as it is a matter of fact that without all of "the boring stuff" you are (at best) just stringing factoids together within the context of a tenuous, ad hoc concept of cause and effect that is based in an appeal to a self proclaimed authority as opposed to observation and logic.
Neil Degrasse Tyson doesn't have a 20+ year career in astrophysics either, by the way. It's just good for business to pretend that he does.

The fuel efficiency of one taco is not significant enough to launch a single taco into space with modern fuel burning techniques. Therefore the fuel outweighs the cargo, which would be primarily tacos. Every taco added to the fuel load would cost many more tacos to put into space than the one taco going.

Well that settles it, doesn't it?
So, when are you going to pick up your first textbook on tensor analysis or astronomy? Hell, are you even planning on learning how to use a telescope (radio or visible)? Can you even find your way around the sky on a clear, dark night? None of that stuff is difficult to learn, but Neil Degrasse Tyson sure the crap ain't gonna teach it to you. It's pretty inglorious stuff, vis a vis one's reputation as the smartest person in the room, seeing how it's considered well within the abilities of the average cub scout to master those tools and concepts.

Yeah, the way that I'm always denigrating my abilities in science and mathematics while recommending textbooks and encouraging people to double check everything that I tell them. What an arrogant prick I am, unlike Neil Degrasse Tyson who pretty much ridicules anybody he doesn't feel to be on the same intellectual level as him. Which is to say that there's footage of him ridiculing attendees at his self adulating lectures (on account of them having fairly common vocal tics). He's literally the sort of guy who walks into a room and tries to break the ice by talking about how stupid anybody who studies philosophy or social sciences is. There's also a good video of him flipping out at Brian Greene over some idle speculation that amounts to "aliens could land tomorrow and show us that everything we know is wrong."

While I don't really remember any posts I've ever saw from you, I totally see your point by the way you didn't do any of that in this thread.

Almost like what you've been doing with pretty much every response in this thread? Or do you feel it's somewhat different because you more just condescend to people than you do outright ridicule them?

I'd love to be able to see the day human beings develop the capabilities of exploring other galaxies. It would be fascinating to witness all the changes humanity would go through to reach that point.
Not to say that I would like to live forever, but to increase my lifespan by thousands of years would be neat. It's unfortunate none of us will live long enough to see any significant change within our own lifetimes.

Fuck mars
Earth is beautiful
the grass is not greener on the other side
why cant we just look after earth ?
I guess it would be cool to inhabit other planets
but to me getting humans interested or thinking that we might colonize other planets is bad as Santa or the Easterbunny
we are already in the deepest part of space that we can go, On a planet that we evolved with why cant we enjoy what we have
Some times i find clarity and i realize how stupid we are including myself

It takes less people to successfully leave and colonize another planet to ensure continuity of a sorts, than it would take to change their way of life so that the planet doesn't become overly fucked.

Their rockets have the worst record of any manufacturer, they have serious QC issues (which they're working hard to ignore), they ignore their engineers, they treat their production workers exactly the way that you'd want to if you wanted them to seriously fuck up and all they've done since those problems arose was come up with worse designs in the name of gimmicks. Pretty much everything that they do gives off the impression that they're less interested in physics and engineering than vindicating whatever hand-waving bullshit they learned in their microeconomics classes.

Specifically because they're using a sixty year old design, which they've spent sixty years on working out the bugs.
The comparative history of the development of the American and the Russian space programs is actually pretty interesting. Kind of helped the Russians that their entire strategic paradigm was based on the premise of the USSR being a superior artillery power.

Yep, the space race is really interesting. Russia tried to go to the moon too but America beat them. They didn't have the resources but they created better smaller rockets at the time.

95% is bad?
Developing a system which recycles the first stage is bad?
The Air Force was about to have to pay ULA (Lockheed Martin/Northrup Grumman) $422 million per launch and is now paying space-x $83 million for the same service. They could fail 3 times before it would be worth going with a competitor.
The cost of launching to the ISS using the Dragon is also significantly better than that of the Soyuz by a similar 2-3x rate.
What do you consider a gimmick? They haven't pushed any unuseful technologies. More - technologies that should've been undertaken long ago that no ones had the cajones to develop.
