Three guys go into a hotel to share a room. The desk clerk tells them the room is $30.00, so they each put in ten dollars and go up to their room. Later, the clerk realizes he made a mistake, and the room is only $25.00. So, he gives the bellhop five dollars to take back to them. But the bellhop is a little crooked and figures they can't split five dollars between the three of them evenly, so he gives them back three dollars and pockets two. Each guy paid ten dollars and got one dollar back, so each guy paid nine dollars. Nine times three is twenty-seven, plus the two dollars the bellhop kept makes twenty-nine. Where's the other dollar?

9*3=27 = 25 for the hotel + 2 for the bellhop I don't understand the question.

the way that question is worded makes it seem like a dollar magically turned up missing, but in reality it's all there:
- each guy pays 10 bucks for their room (3 x 10 = 30) - but each one gets a buck back (30 - 3 = 27) - $25 of that went for the room and the other two went to the bellhop
you see...it's all there

The big thing only looks like a triangle. In fact, the left angle in the red colored triangle is smaller than the left angle in the smaller blue-green triangle (3/8 is smaller than 2/5). This means that the long side bulges out in the lower picture and dents in in the top. This makes a difference of a long, thin quadralateral, that apparently adds up to one square.

It looks like the angle of the hypotenuse is different on the red and green triangles. So the composite shapes are not perfect triangles, right?

Here's a good one.
In Nirvana, nobody ever lies. In Babylon, nobody ever tells the truth. You're on a road, trying to get to Nirvana. You come to a fork in the road, and don't know which path to take. There are two people at the fork. You know that one is from Nirvana and one from Babylon, but don't know which is which. You can ask either one or the other exactly one question, after which they both will leave. What question should you ask, and how will it tell you which path to take?

Ask either person which way their home is.
If they are from Nirvana, they tell the truth.
If they are from Babylon, they lie. Either way they show you the road to Nirvana.

Well, you got that one pretty fast. So, riddle me this:
If a man tells you he's lying, is he telling the truth?

You are paddling up a river in a canoe. At a point 1 mile up the river from the dock from which you departed, you drop your hat in the river. You continue paddling up the river for 10 minutes before deciding to turn back to retrieve the hat. You catch up with the hat just as it floats past the dock where you started.
How long did it take after you turned back to catch up to the hat?
How fast was the river flowing?

I don't have a clue. Isn't that just a logical circle?

Ok, here's my stab at it. It took the hat 20 minutes to get back downstream. In the 10 mins. spent paddling up stream, the canoe traveled 1/2 mile less than it would have in standing water. In ten minutes spent paddling downstream, it covered half a mile more. Deficit of half a mile up stream + gain of half a mile downstream = 1 mile.
10 mins. after I turned back, I caught it. the river was flowing so fast that it flew 1 mile in 20 minutes.
