@ Spotter, are you running cakes or running tubes/trays(BULK)?

I've been trying everything currently I've got 2 jars of cased grains and 3 shoeboxes  and about 15 quarts of colonizing grain.

This is all expanded from a Multispore syringe. It's not perfectly clean, as my psyconaut squirrels can attest. I've never seen a pin.

As well I have some trays and jars of gourmet mushrooms. Those are fruiting well.

So your putting spores straight to grain, and not using agar? Just asking, but you are using a pressure cooker right? If you are using spores straight to grain, and NO agar, that is a HUGE part of your problem. We can guide you in the right direction. Using a spore syringe is best used on cakes. I have had some rather good luck with cakes. ALSO with a spore syringes, less really is better as the more solution you use, the more contamination your putting into the jar. ALL SPORE SYRINGES HAVE SOME LEVEL OF CONTAMINATIONS! They can NOT be 100% clean as spores themselves carry contamination with them.

My first tub and cakes were straight from a spore syringe. Now I'm on 3rd and 4th transfers on agar. I think ive got clean agar now.

All my grains are suspect my first agar looked great but it definitely had a hitchhiker.

My mycelium no longer eats the blue dye in my agar.

I've got some spores from a new print on agar; this time I'm hoping to do a lot better.

The one on the right looks weird. If it gets little dots of yellowish liquid burn it with fire. I just think it's more likely there's something in the dish it doesn't like and could use a transfer. I'm a bit new to agar sill so someone else may know more.

I confess I just did a bad thing. I didn't realize one of the top bags had gotten a tiny hole in it. I had already started massaging the lions mane spawn in when I noticed the leak. I was like fuck it and folded the plastic and slapped boxing tape on it. They were sitting in front of the hepa cooling so hopefully that tiny particle of fungi didn't find it's way in. :feelingblue:

But now for some good news. That fucking oyster is already starting to flourish. It's been only ten hours and I can see it spreading. Dang those blue oysters are easy and aggressive.

Confession. Sticking thermometer into casing bag to measure heat during pasteurization and poked a hole through the bag. Put a grocery bag around it and am hoping for the best

Eat's is a bit less complicated...
(note the tek is focused on pasteurizing substrate, but it will work just the same for casing)

I confess I really am missing cultivation.

I only have two back burner kind of projects going and I have not done agar or grain work for months.

Cakes and bottle culturing are really great options if you don't have a lot of time to spare for cultivation, but still want to keep your feet wet.

I really love doing cakes. I find them really fun for some reason. I am trying to figure out how to consistently get 7g+(dried) from each of my pint cakes. I use grains in mine so I know there is plenty of nutrition in them. So I have started backing down the nutrition and upping my substrate a bit. Since water is limiting factor with cakes, more substrate should help increase water retention.

I knocked up 20 with some old LC last night and have another 20 to knock up tonight. The 1st 20 were made with 6 cups(before hydration) Whole brown rice. The second set was backed down to 4 cups for some comparison. I wanted to put some water retaining crystals in there, but couldn't find any locally so that has to wait for another time.

After looking at toms bag grows recently, I have the urge to build a steam sterilizer and just rock out a shit tone of substrate cakes in bags like his. Probably wont happen, but would be similar to how some people produce their oysters.

Interesting :strokebeard: Cakes are fun because they are so easy to experiment with.

Right! Having it all in one, fully sterilized, makes it much easier to get results. Yes 7G/pint is half of our goal of an OZ/QT that we have with grains, BUT there is no spawning. The substrate is figured into the equation of the cake, butt not the QT of grain. I should try to track the actually BE of my cakes at some point. I think I will do that once I get me a good LGT clone.
