Casing Stalling Out
    #2464379 - 03/23/04 06:11 PM (13 years, 8 days ago)

A first attempt at casing was going really well. Recolonization was done in 3 days even with patching (a few small spots were overcolonized anyway). Pins formed in after days. Good pinning, 30+ pins 80% of which started growing will. For the 4 days the growth was been amazing, visible amounts of growth in 12-16 hours. But the last 2 days or so only 3 of the shrooms have continued to grow well. The rest are staying at around 2", they hit 2" in 3 days and have only grown maybe 3/8" in the last 2 days. Only a few show darkening of the cap or other overt signs of aborting. No signs of contamination are present.

The setup is is a smaller rubbermaid with Perlite humidification (I used perlite with the casing because where I live the humidity this time of year is 25%-30%). It is a 1.5 cake casing about 5.5"x8". 1/2" bottom layer of verm, about 2 inch layer of substrate and a 2/3" straight verm casing layer. The chamber if fanned 3 times a day.

The humidity is too high, I see strong mycelial growth on the bases of the shrooms. There is no condensation on the walls of the chamber though, unless I mist, which I stopped doing when pins started growing. Could too much humidity cause this stalled growth? Or is there some other problem.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

they getting some light each day? the humidity could be up, but is it moist inside...condensation on walls is good. If the rh% is right, but the air isnt moist enough the mushies have a hard time growing. Like a snake shedding with no moisture...it has a hard time to, mushies are like the same way

They get about 6 hours of indirect light a day. I was thinking that maybe the casing is just drying out and they're running out of water on that end. But I don't want to touch the casing to find out until I'm cleaning it between flushes.
