Boiling Dry Shrooms
    #20932190 - 12/05/14 10:24 AM (9 years, 5 months ago)

Hi Guys, There has been some conflicting information out there regarding boiling dried shrooms to make tea as opposed to boiling the kettle and pouring the hot water over them green tea style. The shrooms that grow in my area are known to the hunters as subs or psilocybin subaeruginosa if you wanna get technical and I usually consume them when they are dry as a tea by pouring hot boiled water from the kettle into a cup with the desired amount of dried shrooms inside. Herbal Tea Style. I have had many good nights and amazing trips with this method but when I pushed my luck and had a 10 gram dose I experienced terrifying paralysis and loss of control over my body for several hours, as described in detail here:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19949495

I began researching mushroom paralysis and someone suggested to me that perhaps the problem was some kind of impurity in the substrate the shrooms had grown in and that if they were heavily boiled on the stove for 10-30 mins it would kill any nasty stuff that may be lingering in the dried shrooms and would create a better extraction of psilocybin due to the water being more acidic at higher temps. Personally I have been told by everyone I have asked that boiling shrooms will kill them and ruin the psilocybin so I have always stuck the the "Herbal Tea" kettle method, but after some further research I found more evidence supporting the hard boil idea. So I thought seeing as I had a really nice stash left over from this seasons harvest I could afford to give it a go even if it didn't work out and I cooked the shit outta them.

I started with 2 cups of water in a pot on the stove with a lid on, brought it to boil, then added 3.3g dry subs, I let it go on full boil for 10 mins with the lid on, stirring occasionally. After 10 mins the water had reduced to 1 cup, I turned off the stove let the solution cool then strained the water into a cup leaving the boiled mushy waste behind. I then drank the solution and I can now say without a doubt that boiling shrooms works 100%. The effect was as strong and lasted just as long:cool: seeing as I only experimented with 3.3g it is hard to tell if this process has indeed killed off the nasty stuff that caused my paralysis leaving the psilocybin behind in a purer form as suggested. I will have to try another 10g dose boiled up to know for sure but I can confirm for you all that if you boil your dried shrooms the will still work just as well as pouring pre-boiled water onto them.

Hopefully you guys find this helpful as I had a lot of trouble with researching this subject as it seems to be one of the topics that has a lot of conflicting information out there. But after my research and trails I can confirm BOILING DOES WORK! Take care ppl. I'll let you know how the boiled 10g goes next time.

I've been trying to convince others of this for years, to no avail. Best of luck trying to do the same lol

Although, I for one can vouch that I boil my shrooms, and I've tripped everytime to the expected level except once (but I had a huge tolerance)

Good to know. I made shroom tea in a kettle once when I was camping.
Worked very well actually, although since I had soo little water in the kettle I had to keep turning it on / off manually as the water did not fully cover the element.

Did you guys put your dried shrooms in whole? Cut them up? Turned them into a powder? I think boiling will be nice as you can reduce the water to a more manageable amount.

I didn't chop them up I just put the dried shrooms in a empty cup whole. Boiled the kettle, then poured the boiling water into the cup containing whole dried shrooms, like making normal tea. I didn't put the shrooms in the actual kettle and boil them, I just poured the hot water into the cup on top of whole shrooms.

This is the way I have always consumed my mushies, unless they have been picked that day and can be washed and eaten fresh. But after the terrifying paralysis I experienced when having 10g's of dried psilocybin subaeruginosa with this method I was fixated on trying to understand what had happened to me and began researching mushroom paralysis and trip reports.

One helpful shroomer suggested that perhaps the issue was in the substrate the shrooms had grown in rather than the psilocybin itself and if the shrooms were boiled it would kill any nasty shit that may make u sick and preserve the goodness of the psilocybon. This advice went against what every other shroomer I know has told me, that boiling shrooms will kill the psilocybin. I looked into it further and found some reports that confirmed the idea and several others that supported that the psilocybin would be destroyed in the process.

Seeing as I had a very, very, good season this year, with plenty of golden goodness to go around I figured I'd give it a go and even if it fucked up at least I'd know for sure if boiling dried shrooms worked or not. I can now say with absolutely no doubt that boiling dried shrooms in the method I mentioned above will work as well as making them "herbal tea style". You will lose no potency at all and the trips are just as intense and last just as long.

I will continue to experiment with this boiling method over the next few weeks and report back my findings. Hopefully I can establish once and for all what causes mushroom paralysis and how to prevent it. Perhaps the solution is as easy as boiling your dried dose to kill any unwanted nasties before consumption, or maybe the reason is something much more complex that will require a lot more time and research.

This leads me to believe the only way to confirm that this method will fix the paralysis problem is to boil up 10g's and see if it happens again. I am really sketchy on going thru with this, as what happened last time honestly scared that absolute shit outta me. But If I can save even one person out there from going thru that terrifying experience or something similar then its worth it.

I am determined to understand this phenomenon even if it means putting myself at risk of being subjected to it again. I will record my findings over the next few weeks and report back any useful insights, as well as detailed trip reports. I hope I can solve this mystery and make tripping hard a little bit safer for everyone who likes to ride the rainbow and kiss the sky
I'll be back soon to let you know what happens but in the mean time remember:

BOILING DRIED SHROOMS WORKS!!!

Take care ppl and as always Happy Hunting,

Boiling is fine
Exposing to lots of oxygen or real high temps is bad

Peace

Yeah, there's some threads about that...I think tea is the best method, though....boiling does not hurt the psilocin content.:mushroom2:

I don't think drying hurts the potency very much. In any case, ya gotta store them somehow.

You can make tea from fresh and freeze it.    Comeup is a lot shorter with stabilized psilocin extracted.

Drying takes a hit on psilocin but not psilocybin as the latter doesn't oxidize easily.  This matters more for cubes and less for woodlovers which tend to have more psilocybin.

Oh, maybe that's why I don't notice a difference...mine are all woodlovers.:mushroom2::mushroom2:

Yeah, back when I had dried liberty caps or my domesticated ps. cyans :yinyang2: simply boiling them made a great tea.  After growing cubes I found the best extraction was using citric acid on fresh fruits - gets all the actives out and there's a good % of psilocin there.

Combination of both is also fine:

- Pulverize the shrooms
- put them in a fillable teabag
- put in a cup together with juice of one lemon
- poor boiling water over the shrooms, let sit for 15-20 min
- enjoy
