This was found near a mulch bed on the fringe of my grass line near shady tree line which looks to be maybe Cypress trees. It stays pretty moist around there. This is in central North Carolina.

It was growing right on the edge of the grass line.

Spore print looked black or maybe dark brown?

huh, how bout that.  i've always thought of velutinas as having a whiter stipe.  searches seem to back you up but still with some doubt so perhaps sequencing would straighten that out with certainty.
