I got this 60gal aquarium that I've used as a terrarium in the past. Recently I've wanted to start again but this time I don't want to do cased cakes instead I was thinking of just making the base of the aquarium as my container for a really big cased cake. What do you think about that?

I think thats a marvelous idea!! Why wouldn't it work? Make sure you cover the bottom of the terrarium with something to keep the light off of the sides of the casing! You don't want pins on the sides of your casing!

Its about 50cm tall so I'd say the depth of the substrate and the casing layer ~ 6-8cm deep.

I wouldn't recommend using less than 2" of substrate or you will most likely get small fruits. 1" will work, but like I said, you'll get small fruits. With a 2" substrate layer, comes a 1/2" casing layer.

I've never done something this deep but what would you say about 8cm substrate & 4cm casing.

8cm substrate, OK! 4cm casing, to thick! Try 1cm to 1 1/2cm thick casing layer.

I mean...it needs to be sterilized isn't that right? Can I just put some compost in an aquarium and inject some spores and hope that no contamination will happen?

No, you can't! Not advisable. You must start some spawn from agar, rye berries, WBS ect. and inoculate the compost with it. Compost/Poo must be pasteurized before use at 170*F for 60 min. Even so, Poo is quite contam resistent.

Na I got really big bags that i'm going to stick in PC for about 2hrs not to say more and just inoc them. After 100% colonization ill move it to the terrarium. any way the best way to find out is to just test it, it doesn't cost anything.

I am sorry, it must be my shitty english, what I mean is, if the "ingredients" that one uses to make the soil, the cake(I don't know how to say this) are correct and ok, and that one being me, do I have to sterilize generally anything in the process?and if yes how do I sterilize such a big quantity of soil?

You'r not supposed to sterilize Poo/straw/compost!! You have to pasteurize it!!
