Verm showing through on BRF cake.
    #2462936 - 03/23/04 04:05 AM (20 years, 10 days ago)

I have two BRF cakes that have fully grown in. In both cakes there's a spot about the size of a quarter where the verm can easily be seen. The rest of the cake's growth is so thick no verm can be seen. I must add during the incubation time there was a funky smell for about a week, and it went away.

What's your thoughts on using these cakes?

My schizo reaction:

1.  It should be fine.  Very often cultivators are working with slightly contaminated substrate and don't realize it.  The remaining section should fluff up nicely in a proper rH environment.

2.  Be cautious;  You have no idea what's going on in the center of the cake.  What you see as uncolonized is only a tiny part of the colonization surface area.  This cake may be a good candidate for crumbling and casing, if for no other reason than to check on the center and only use good/colonized parts.

You pick

Thanks you two.

I think I'll go with option #2. By building a casing, I wont need anything extra to add to the fruiting chambers RH. Thus I'll be able to build a simple fruiting chamber, and fruit these two troubled cakes separately.
