I should try more, maybe I worry too much. This post is based on my 3 friends that failed with their cakes. 2 of them never tried again, I find it sad. Really!

But really, the last shot my friend made with ralphsters spores he got:


From Ecuador:
2/10 shown colonisation. Healthy cakes.

B+
10/10 green mold all the way.. From inoculation zone, not from bad sterilisation of the substrate

Argentina(??)
10/10 healthy mycelium + black mold spots

All cakes were made in a pressure cooker

did you inform the vendor that upon microscopic observation, your syringes were just littered with trich spores?

:shrug: doesnt matter, there are options he had that he didnt take.

i have never had an issue with putting spores directly into jars.


though we all should know agar to grain to grain is BY FAR superior

Very clumsy and a total virgin to growing and to site, looking to buy easy to get supplies that won't break the bank, should I use the bag thing? Or the jars. I have already looked at certain types of strains in a syringe but would like a second opinion. Please private message me if possible.

I feel like if you follow proper sterile technique you're fine with MS from a reputable dealer.  I'm on my first grow and I've only used ms from 3 syringes to inoculate and have zero contaminations so far.  8 brf jars, 2 rye, and like 16 petri dishes.

But I'm a newb so what do I know?  Just saying that my first go has been clean.

I'm only on my 2nd grow, but I've inoculated 18 qt jars with MS syringe with no contams.

Hey y'all. This thread is only about 6 years old. :thumbup:

It's best to drop spore solution onto agar. Bacteria can be difficult to spot in grain jars.

jdawg, it's cheaper to just buy the stuff to prep your own spawn. I'd go with jars over bags. Bags are only really good if you have a flow hood and I doubt you have one ATM.
