Venezuela to start selling oil in non-dollar currencies
    #24617382 - 09/10/17 12:38 AM (6 years, 6 months ago)

https://www.trtworld.com/americas/venezuela-to-start-selling-oil-in-non-dollar-currencies-10362

Quote:

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced on Friday his that government will sell oil and other commodities in currencies other than the dollar, in a bid to weather US-imposed sanctions on the embattled country.

"I have decided to start selling oil, gas, gold and all other products that Venezuela sells with new currencies, including the Chinese yuan, the Japanese yen, the Russian ruble, the Indian rupee among others," he said during a television broadcast.

"An economy free from the US imperialist system is possible."

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

inb4 war crime by maduro that "the intl community must not ignore."

Also, can we not do the "this is what happens under socialism" bullshit? Venezuela's percentage of govt owned businesses to GDP is roughly the same as France. They have the oil production and thats about it.

I love pointing that fact out to conservatives sadly to a conservative any regime that pays lip service to socialist ideals must be socialist. Venezuela is a capitalist nation with a dictatorship.

Lots of defensiveness on the left about their state..  The people are protesting Maduro because their shelves are empty, black markets thrive, exchange rates are crazy and inflations run wild.  This is what happens when you institute price fixing and build subsidized social programs off of voltile commodity prices.  They can have socialism, they cant fight the market and market forces.

Over 70 percent of Venezuela is employed privately that doesn't sound like socialism to me.

You said "Lots of defensivness on the left about their state"Diecommie. I pointed out that Venezuela has nothing to do with the left at all its a capitalist country with a dictator who pays lip service to leftist ideals.

I didnt claim it was… Call it whatever you like.  Ignore market forces at your own peril.  Even worker owned enterprises are subject to the market whether they like it or not.

What percentage employed by the state meets your criteria for "socialism"?

It's not so much what percentage are employed "privately", it's how much regulation that is taking place.

The US has lots of regulation

That's true, but not all regulations are equal in nature, either are levels of taxation.
