Well, some people sterlize it by placing it in their pressure cooker some how, but I've always pasturized by putting it in a pan, covering it with foil....and baking it on about 350 for 20 minutes.

Do you add water and shit before pasturizing? if so does baking dry is out?

baking does dry it out a bit, it may be necessary to add a bit more water afterwards. Also, I might bake at a lower temp, maybe 170 degrees for about an hour. I just tried this recently and everthing has been going fine thus far. As for pasterizing, you can put your casing mixture in an old pillowcase, bring a pot of water to a boil, turn off the heat and stick the pillow case in the water, let this soak until the water is tepid. Afterwards, just stamp out the water until you can barely squeeze any water out of the casing mixture. I also tried this a few days ago so I could compare results with the substrate that was baked. No problems so far....Oh yeah, this was all told to me by Spacefarmer, So if you have any disagreements you can yell at him :wink:

Pastuerization of casing isn't really recommended. Mr. Wicky's got the right formula sounds like to me.

By deffinition, pasteurization will be heating it to 160 deg F for about an hour. Sterilization will be just about anything more than that, although a true sterilization will only be reached by at least 250 deg F, preferably in a pressure cooker at 15 pounds pressure for about an hour.

You deffinitely want to shoot for pasteurization over sterilization when dealing with a casing. Baking, or heating in water both work well.
