Grinding Seeds

Is it a possibility to grind up bird seed/millet inorder for it to be easier to be sterilized without a pressure cooker?. IE replacing the millet powder with BRF?. If im correct the reason you cant just steam sterilize whole bird seed is because regular boiling temps have hard time getting to the center of the seeds?.

I tried this with both millet and WBS before I bought my pressure cooker, the millet worked out fine but all of my WBS jars got bacterial contams. WBS really does require a pressure cooker even when it's ground.

I know someone who has done it with no problems.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

it may just give you a gooey mess, however. the pf tek is designed with the type of flour that is least likely to give a sticky, airspaceless mess. instead, if you want to do millet or WBS w/o a pc, try fractional sterilization (there are teks somewhere on this site). i'm doing it with popcorn and it works quite nicely, and others have had success with WBS and millet

Why I didn't have success with BRF??
Went right into using rye grass seed and millet as flower.
Things went right.
Don't fix it , if it's not broken.

The type of BRF that I use, has a list of other products available listed on the back and one of them is Millet Flour. I havn't made it back to the place i bought from yet but I am going to see if they carry it. Might be a good replacement for BRF!
