Does it matter if you keep (clingfilm wrapped) petris outside of the SAB? I'm running out of room inside the SAB to actually do any work in there...

It's cool. Just don't open them outside the Sab.

:whathesaid: Not one shit, if wrapped.

If unwrapped, mine will go bad in the SAB as well.

I've seen those slugs bungee like  that as well. Wouldn't call it a web though, it's just their slime as far as I  can tell. I was surprised to see them do that the first time, but I've seen it quite a few times more since. I also have a slug box. I just use plastic containers upside down, with holes in them stuffed with rolls of hood filter material (thx to Eat for the rolling up strips of filter material idea, Pinky thread though I use different filter). Just put it on top of the soil where mushies are coming up (from contam subs buried), put a little dirt up the sides of the box so they can't get  under, and voila. I had to add filter material at a certain point, because when I went to check in the morning, one snail was making it's way back to the soil coming out of the filter material. Making more holes to fill up tightly is a better approach to more FAE than loosening the filter material, when it comes to slugs. The filter was on top of the box (where the hole was as well), and the slug had left a trail there and back, and eaten all the shrooms that were growing, leaving just a stump here and there and a half eaten cap. I'd imagine them having no trouble getting through your box though..? Don't they just slime their way through the holes?

Probably right was thinking sharp edges they don't like to move on? same theory as crushed oyster shells. Ive tried copper, wasn't effective. Need wide strip of copper and small area to protect. not my case. Beer in bowls works great but it rains everyday in the fall and next night beer needs topped off. The time I didn't check, next morning cyan gone. Anyway, the box looked like shit and tossed it months ago. Hence my entry into this months contest. Fucking slugs.

....I am grateful they spread spores.

Just had a better idea for the slug/bug prevention thing.. Just make a framing out of wood, a sterilite box, whatever you have on hand, and go buy the cheapest hood filter you can find. Then just hot glue or tack or tape it on the frame until it's a room. With a wooden frame, you could make the top into a hinged lid with clamp or magnet shutters  to close it tightly. You can make it any size you want, gets enough FAE, keeps out all bugs n slugs except for those crawling through the wood, easy enough to dig in a bit quickly, and it doesn't take away much light. It even might make a spot easier to cultivate in when it's getting too much light! If you made the top a wooden board instead of filter material it would instantly give a better environment in full sun spaces. I bet it would even be possible to mount some cotton sheets under the filter material to allow you to keep humidity up better by misting it a couple times a day in dry periods. Maybe a way to spread the fruiting period a bit wider?

All the flower beds around my house are woodlover patches, I would have my neighbors thinking I'm loony with tubs in all my flower beds. lol.
I did make a frame with hinges covered with chicken wire to keep the cat from shitting in the spot.

Man, I never have any problems with any grain, and over populations of nasties, but I live in a huge farming state, so maybe the grain supply always stays fresh?

Confession time- Although agar work is very straightforward and I've had pretty decent success with it I'm still not 100% confident with spotting a clean culture. I'm still unsure of whether the cotton looking growth is good or not. I think it still need some cleaning up. Any insight?
And for the record I took the lid off to take pics but ended up tossing it because I have 3 more just like it

A rhizomorphic culture will develop some tomentose growth once the available nutes have been claimed and it starts to consolidate. Use plates sooner. Those are probably okay other than some lost vigor.

Damn! That's sad you tossed it. That was a good looking culture imo.

My wife told me it looked good but since she studied ascomycetes and not basidiomycetes she wasn't 100% sure and I definitely would have used the culture sooner than this had I been certain. Thanks Pasty
