So what's on this drive i wonder. . .
    #24602404 - 09/04/17 06:35 AM (6 years, 7 months ago)

ive got a used external hard drive coming today and as per the last 2 i bought i will be running a recovery program to see what was last on it...this was rather entertaining the last time, i found some guys passport/imigration info collage aplications & other private docs and then....gay porn! lots of it!! some might have been personal i think, the other drive had nothing more than films

little could really be done i suppose unless you knew the person and wanted to blackmail them or perhaps you found some kind of incriminating evidence or a drug stash or...oh wait the list goes on

my main point here besides a little braging is to be safe!

so if you are selling an old drive soon learn how to write zeros or format and fill up with random stuff and repeat this a few times in order to prevent such people as myself from descovering "valubale" info

i'll post back with my findings once ive ran the app which for a 2gb drive will take a few hours but its still not here yet annoyingly as it was ana arranged re delivery! grr

 That's really good advice. I found a usb on the back of a hire trailer once which was full of what I'm assuming was home made porn filmed with a go pro. Was pretty gross so I formatted it about 100 times, thank goodness it wasn't anybody I knew. :projectile:

Does it work on phone memory cards? I have a few microSDs I've found. A couple of them act like they have some type of lock on them.

If you have some computer skills look into Black Arch Linux, it's a penetration and testing system but comes with forensic and recovery tools. Would I tell them about their movie if I knew them? I honestly don't know, what would you do?.... uncomfortable though.

One time I came across a stack some of those old mini discs for a camcorder. They were full of stupid drunk conversations/rambling and the most disgusting home made porn. It was like a fat rhino that hit every branch falling out the ugly tree, getting plowed by a gigantic ballsack looking skinny pig along with all the leathery friction and pervasive *shlick shlick* ambience. Gore is less disturbing and mentally damaging than these videos.

Even if I was that mean() there's no fucking way I'd ever save that shit. I put a big X on that disc with a Sharpie and snapped it in half. If I only ever do humanity one service in my lifetime, making sure those videos never see the light of day would certainly be it.

 I was just kidding anyway.

On the thread topic I don't think I would ever buy a used hard drive, the reliability isn't great even when you buy them new. Unless it was in a used computer. I couldn't really see selling a hard drive either.

im talking about external drives in this thread tbh mate and mine have never failed! but are wd passports so could be why... but of course this could be done with internals though they're likely  noisey for sure so not for a decent fresh build unless they were stated to be hardly used...mine was new other and all good so far after 18m but have a ssd for windows anyway
